Stupid question!
So what do I need to get a protune? Do I need a Cobb AP? =]

A "pro tune" is just a tune done specifically for your car by a professional tuner. Some tuners prefer to use Cobb's software, others may use open source software, or may be willing to do it either way.
The #1 thing you need is a trusted tuner who a) has the skills to do a good tune, b) will listen to your goals. A tune is often a compromise between power and safety, so you have to let the tuner know what you want and they have to advise you and work within your comfort zone. Once you find the right tuner, talk to them about options like Open Source versus AP. |

Thanks! I bought a Cobb AP but if I end up wanting a protune do I have to uninstall or can I keep the AP?

you dont have to uninstall it in most cases. Depends on your tuner.

different tuners choose either Ap or open source, with an AP you can "save" the custom MAP that a protune will give you that is specific for your car
