Default Installing a toggle switch to tail lights?

Hi, I don't post often, and I certainly dont know **** about wiring or electrical stuff.
Here's the run down, my tail lights went out a little while ago, brake lights, reverse, signals, etc. all work.

Bulbs are okay, fuses are ok. Basically Im not gonna go and start checking my wiring, cause Id rather not mess things up even more.

So id like to just install a toggle switch, run a new wire and just be done with. Can someone give me a run down or a guide. Im sure this can't be that hard. I'll even pay someone some cash money, I just want my lights back. My ****s so ghetto right now, Ive been using flash lights as tail lights....lol
Please help a brother out...

Much love
thanks!

See if the switch (the virgin switch) on top of the steering column will turn on the lights. It bypasses some things in the light circuit. If that works then the tail light relay may be the trouble or the light switch itself could be the problem. If the switch works be sure to turn the lights off when you get out of the car. You don't want to come back to a dead battery.

As soon as I read the title I had to see why you wanted to do this. People used to do this when running moonshine.

A WRX would make the perfect moon shine runner.

Where exactly is Chi-dizzle? Georgia?

If you can't fix it properly yourself then give it to someone who can. If you are willing to pay someone to kluge it together then why not just have it done right.

what is up with this question lately??

This is the third time i've seen people wanting to jury rig a their tail lights, rather than fixing it correctly, despite the fact that they are very important for safety reasons

^What he said haha!

I really don't understand why people are asking me WHY don't I just fix it, especially a mod on this board. I already said why. I really don't have money to take it to a shop and get screwed over again. I have some money in my paypal thats it. I have wiring and toggle switches laying around, if I could get this hooked up ill be very happy. Car is bumpy as hell, so flashlights always fall out of there place. Would be nice to have it LESS ghetto than it is now, and when time comes around Ill fix it legit, but nows not the time. I just need to do a quick fix so I stop getting pulled over. Tail lights are important, and my car is black, and I come home from work around night time...even if its ghetto rigged, I would just like to have tail lights again one way or another so I can drive safely.

Just got downstairs and tried that, realized my switch is BROKEN! WTF! Its just been casually sitting there in its place, looks like the old owner broke the little clips or something. My luck....

You somehow managed to buy an '07 wrx but can't afford to fix a CRITICAL safety item?? Time to sell the car and get something more affordable i'd say.

Who said I can't afford it? I just don't wanna spend a bunch of money fixing it when I can just install a toggle switch and be happy. So since you have nothing worth posting, You should just gtfo, i'd say...

Seriously I asked for help, not f*ckin comments asking why Im installing a toggle switch. Seriously, I don't give a ***** about what you think is right or wrong. I'm asking on how to go about wiring it without messing anything up, not your critique and what you think is right. K? I don't go around telling you how much your wheel fitment sucks, and your ride height is wrong, and everything else about your car is wrong, do I? No... so no need to go off at me about some dumb switch saying how it's "wrong" and to do it "right". There is no such thing as wrong or right in this world, there is only what works for you.

I came to this site hoping for some help because I dont know much on electricals, other than gauges...so for the last time. Im not going to a shop, Id like to just install a toggle switch for now before breaking into my harness and checking for corrosion or anything else that may have caused it. If anyone knows what i'll need, hit me up. Just cause Im new to electricals doesnt mean Im brain dead about cars....I just never had to work with any electrical issues before.

Thanks

I've seen millions of Trailblazers with non-functional tail lights and brake lights, but not a 2007 WRX! Was this car modified? Did someone before you throw in altezzas and screw up the wiring? I would seriously take a peek behind one of the tail lights and see what's up.

Honestly it's most likely the switch on the stalk that controls his lights. That seems to almost always be the culprit short of someone doing some home rewiring, I don't understand why the OP is so opposed to trying to FIX it himself (as I'm sure many of us would gladly help with that) as opposed to spending the time to jury rig the lights... and honestly if you need help to rig up a system that goes Battery + -> fuse -> switch -> lights -> ground... then maybe you shouldn't be doing this work at all.

Oh nos! I just searched. You tricked me! I can see it coming though...good call!

And yeah, the stalk is most likely the culprit. The odds of having wiring screwed up on BOTH tail lights without blowing fuses are pretty high. He needs a toggle stalk!
