It looks like from the chart that if i see a Toyota manual knob it should work on my WRX.
This is my second texas summer with my Scoob and that branding iron Momo sphere needs to go. I was coveting a JDM red & black leather knob...until i saw the price |

They do share the same thread, but other factors are involved with fitment like clearance and shift boot issues so those would have to be checked out before you spend money on something from a different car, so reasearch first! Good luck. |

Is the SS WRX Sphere available with shorter (3/8") collar?
I have a 2009 2.5i Impreza and want to replace the OEM shift knob with your stainless steel one. Does the collar height effect the overall height of the knob or is it the same for both due to the drilled depth? I am trying to get the knob as low as possible Thanks, Johnny |

I have recently done a swap with my Legacy GT and a friend of mine suggested I post my solution here... I simply modified my stock 5-speed knob I work at a machine shop and got one of my coworkers to align it in a vice on a manual mill and drill out a one inch deep recess at just under .800" diameter (.785-or something i can't remember exactly) in the white plastic core of the knob it left more than enough thread to use the knob securely.
Though I could have gone with about .050" or so less and been fine but any more than i did would have completely removed that section of the core which honestly would not have mattered much except the white plastic allows the lockout to slid better when pulling on the knob causing a slight flex in the rubber at the base. I did pull the leather back from the rubber that makes up the outer body before drilling so as not to shred the material. After the core was drilled out I trimmed about 3/16- 1/4 inch off of the rubber that remained at a rounded edge. Then trimmed off some of the extra leather some then glued it down with a very small amount 3m automotive adhesive. Lastly I pried off the clear plastic piece with the 5-speed shift pattern printed on the back of it scraped and polished the pattern off of the back and I'm going to try to have a small Subaru stars emblem cut from vinyl to replace the shift pattern. |

i just got a kartboy shifter and blox 490 knob, but it wont thread all the way down. its only threading on about 1/2", 3/4" tops. looked at the threads on the shifter and inside the knob, and both look fine. Yes, it is M12x1.25 (as far as i know. couldve been boxed wrong i guess, but then i doubt it would thread as far as it does.) Any idea what the problem could be, and do you guys have any way to fix it if it's not just something stupid?

materials
have you considered copper or nickle? i understand the cost would be more considering the stock value but the weight and look would be pretty cool. good function in my mind.
also i understand that you create most of these products through machining. i noticed that lead was forementioned and the machining that would be involved could be potentially harmful to your health. my question is have you considered forged products? most likely this would be much more costly but this would open a lot of other options for material to be used. |

I think lead (in regard to machining) is ok as long as it's just the metal. I think it's lead salts (like in paint pigment) that are what your body will absorb harmfully.
I still wouldn't eat it, though. |

What about shift knob extenders? I have a wrx oem 5 speed knob, but I like how the sti shifter sits a little bit higher. like maybe raising it un an inch. I like the oem knob but I hate how its damn near threaded all the way up into the shift knob
