Renn Tin Tin Solo - 9 June 2007, Houston Middle School
Championship Event#4
Sponsored by Continental Auto Group

Come one come all to the Renn Tin Tin Solo event!!!!!! It’s being held on June 9th at Houston middle school, for those of you who know this venue you know how much fun the courses are, and for those who don't you should come out and have a good time tearing up a good set of tires. Hope to see you all there!!

The day’s event is as follows:

Saturday, June 9th Schedule
Location: Houston middle school 12891 W. Hawk Rd Big Lake, AK 99652
08:00-09:00AM - Registration
09:15AM - Novice Walk-Thru with Driver Training Program - Open to ALL Competitors
09:40AM - Safety Orientation with Solo Safety Steward -- this is a MANDATORY briefing for all new competitors and required annually for all others. While you're welcome to attend this presentation at every event, the Region only requires your attendance at your first Solo event each season. You'll learn about your responsibilities while at an event and while working corners, cone displacements, radio calls and other safety matters occurring at Solo events.
10:00AM - Driver Meeting -- a welcome by the Event Chair and SCCA Board of Directors. The first car on course will take place as soon as workers are on course and Competitors are on grid.

DLBRacing.com is the official means by which to register for all 2007 Solo events. We encourage you to pre-register for the event; it helps the Event Chairman plan the event and it also helps Registration and Timing & Scoring too! You may pay online with your credit card OR you can pre-register and pay at the event. We do ask that you call the Region office at 243-2122 to register your season competition number before going to DLBRacing. For those without an SCCA membership card, you will start with 200 numbers. Region members may choose a competition number between 2 and 99 that are not already reserved.

Registration will be maintaining two lines this year: One for those individuals that have pre-registered and one for those who have not.

Entry fees for the Memorial Day Challenge:
SCCA Members $30
Non-Members $40

Details for event:

Work at Hope's Kiosk for a few hours. Boom, entry fee.

I wonder how the tar strips are out at the Houston site this year.

I'm currently working, but the schedule changes a lot. it's a crappy job that I can quit whenever I want. I want to keep it for awhile though for the extra money. I'm about to call on another job and hopefully find out about that one--which is the job I want. If I get the good job I'll be on a normal Monday-Friday schedule, but the crap job has me working some crappy times... like the rest of this week I'm working 6pm to 2am.

anyway. once i get this damn work thing figured out and start working for a company that PAYS its employees on time and the right amount then things will be dandy.

I actually might participate. Just need to find some tires. For those who've raced this course in the past, how is it?

The course will likely be different, but the location is usually rainy, dusty/gravely, potential tar strips sealing pavement cracks. It's not as nice as the Wasilla site from this past weekend, but still a fairly large site. A long rectangle.

It's typically interesting, and not in a bad way.

Edit - these are observations of mine from events I've participated in at this location. Not meant to poo-poo the event, or scare you off. I will be there, and will likely enjoy it. Maybe Dentdude will chime in on the condition of the site, since he's probably been out there recently.

It's pretty straight forward. drive through Wasilla, take the exit when it says Houston Middle/Sr Schools.

the actual address is: 12891 W. Hawk Ln Houston AK

I'm getting a new shifter before next event hopefully....no more shifting from 1st to 4th and then into second and then getting beat by a suburu by .11 seconds....grr...

with the black pavement at the sports complex even race tires were squeeling. I hope the tar snakes aren't as bad this year at Houston.

Tire squeal typically isn't good. It's the sound of tenths of seconds being lost. Or something like that.

Online registration isn't up yet.

I will try to make this one as well. As far as pavement goes, it is a nice slab of asphalt. I never found it to be too bad, it is better than bartlett yet worse than this weekends at the wasilla complex. Probably a bit like AKRP to be honest from my recolection.

Huston asphalt should be better than wasilla. New asphalt is EXTREMELY slippery. I spent the whole event slipping any time I touched the throttle.

Of course, Huston re-sealed the asphalt last year...hopefully its better.
