Let's Talk Sources for Mods
I've been scouring Subaru product sites and forums for add-ons for my Baja Turbo. Although there doesn't seem to be much specific to the Baja, there are lots of add-ons that would seem to fit from the STI, Forester XT and even the Outback. The problem is figuring out what will work.
Sites that I've come across that list products specifically for Bajas include: Rallitek Xcceleration Cobb Tuning Fast Mods Boxer4Racing I've dealt with Rallitek (short shifter, silencer delete elbow and MBC) and would do business with them again. I also ordered shifter bushings from Oakos, and found them very responsive. I ordered some stuff from Cobb but found their customer service exceptionally poor (never got the stuff because they simply didn't put the order into their system or something stupid like that). I also installed an STI tranny mount a few days ago, which I think (I forgot) from Scooby Tuner. They have lots of useful info about mods in general. For factory parts, I've used Subaru Parts Mall and have been happy with their prices and service. There are many other sites for factory parts, of course. I'm looking at exhausts (either cat-back or turbo-back). Xcceleration is one of the few places that seem to offer anything. Boxer4Racing says it can get a cat-back with a 12-15 day wait from a company with three initials that I can't find anything about. Any other worthwhile sites out there? If you can figure out what parts from the STI, Forester XT and even the Outback will fit your Baja, you'll find much more to choose from. That can be tricky sometimes.

Im also dying to find good parts for the baja turbo, but Im afraid to go out on a limb to try anything Ive seen so far (other than a K&N! haha). Plus subaru's willingness to cancel people's warranty for the smallest of mods scares me a bit. I was still taking my 00 camaro ss to dealership with headers and and quite a few bolt-ons on getting warantee work done on it, from what Ive seen some of the subaru dealers will void everything if they even find wrench marks on the exhaust.
I like the computer set up that just plugs into your pcm, and factory settings can be restored. I forget what the thing was called, but they supposedly are making one for a baja (exists for xt and sti so far). It was like $800 though. The exhaust setups seem expensive that ive looked at so far. $699 for just a single outlet catback exhaust seems high to me. How is that MBC working out for you? How much boost did you set it to? I wish I had more to offer than that. |

The warranty voiding issue seems to be the most common issue in CA. Most dealers will take a look at an engine and see that you have made, lets say a grounding kit mod and your tranny goes out on you (lots of WRX guys know this storry) and they will void the warranty. And others will take a look and wee where the failure started and if the cause wasn't the the mod they will get it warrantied. So it is all in finding a good dealier. If you are near the bay area and modding your subie and need warranty work, take it to Satna Cruz Subaru. They will do their best to get your issue fixed under warranty.
