Default What is a jagoff....see this post.

I just wanted to hear some uninformative answers from a bunch of a-holes. I would like responses only from newbies who think they got good info yet have none.

Larger turbo + fully closed deck + more boost = better numbers.

about the only 2 things in common with the engine are the fact that they are both 2.0l other then that they have almost nothing in common. intercooler, EVO is an inline 4, WRX is a horizontal 4, EVO is twin scroll, WRX isnt, etc.

and several years of development. the EVO motor is basically the same design they used in the turboed eclipse and galant so the aftermarket is better than subaru's as well.

The advantage of the 2.5L is better low end and less turbo lag thought the EVO's are twin-scroll IIRC so lag is minimal. 2.0L Subarus in Japan have the twin scroll as well, I'm not sure why we dont have it available yet.

as i understand it the Motor on the EVO's holds up well even modded its the rest of the car that goes pop. In the motorsports forum I asked why there are more STi's in road racing than EVO's. The answer from those who race regularly were money, Mitsu's broke so they dont support teams much, and reliability. The parts that fail included power steering, clutch and a few other parts that support the motor's ability to function.

^^that sounded better in my head...

anyways, njskatchmo, a twinscroll turbo has 2 inlets for the exhaust past on the hot side. Look up the vf 37 or just twinscroll

I thought the JDM STI's 2.0 motors were pretty similar to the Evo in power, unless somethings changed recently.

The 2.5 was to satisfy US market for more torque I thought.

In either case, I'm thankful for the extra .5 liter.

The 2.5 litre was put it the STi to pass the US emissions standards and still put out the power of JDM 2 litre. Japan has lower standards on emissions then the US. Would not have been able to get the power out of the 2 litre and still pass US emissions.

Nope. Japan actually has stricter emissions then the US. But they do have better gas with higher octane ratings. They can run more timing and tune the engine to a higher level and at higher rpms. Thats why a 2.0L in Japan makes the same power as a 2.5 here. But torque and powerband is a VERY different story, our motor is torquier and our redline is lower. The Jspec redlines somewhere north of 7500.

Don't forget that the evo has a very short exhaust path unlike the wrx/sti.

wrxzboost pointed out one obvious point, so I figured I would throw in another obvious point....

and I think a lot of people do really care about the sound of the engine, especially people who don't care that much about raw power numbers .

this thread is ridiculous, as if displacement was the only variable in the output of an engine.

some people's brains just don't function very well, do they? i guess that's because they don't have as much brain mass

if you're going to argue, i say move the thread to OT where it belongs.

that's what won me over to buy a wrx...everytime i here one drive by to this day i always look out for it. but good point, the boxer engine is in a league of its own when it comes to sound.

Uhh negative ghostrider. There are plenty of EVO tuners out there that have been much more successful pushing power out of that "highly strung" 4G63, than most Scooby tuners have been with the STi.

True, EVO's push more boost, but they're also, arguably, stouter engines.

What would the EJ257 be capable if Subaru made it a fully closed deck?? Is the JDM EJ20 fully closed??
