I think the 2007 looks better and I don't have my head in a bucket.

I'd go 05/06 STI before either one. In fact I tried finding an 05/06 but gave up and got a Mitsu.

I agree that the '07 looks much better than the 2011. The new sedan body is just not very attractive. I wouldn't mind the 5-door as a daily, though.

2011 makes the 2007 look ancient.

like someone said in the original post, those are not stock 07 rims -- and they're heavy . . .

Yeah, even considering the lines in the 2011 car come from 2008. It's a bit strange to think that the lines from the 2007 car are pretty much a decade old already. It looked good back in 01' with the proper JDM/EDM projectors and got progressively ugly from there.

You're a GD owner.. that kind of daily exposure is exactly the bucket they're referring to. Aesthetics are very personal things that are formed by the environment we're accustomed to.... which is why automotive styling is so heavily based on fads.

The underlying lines in the GD line date back to 1993... which is why it hasn't aged well.

This guy is a moron. I love how he talks about how the sedan is superior to the hatchback because it lowers the drag coefficient, and now the top speed is up to 158 mph! A whole 3 mph more than the hatchback. I'd rather have fold down seats and a 5th door than a giant wing. It's just slightly more useful, even if I can only go 155 mph.

The sedan seats fold down...

I would do without the 2011 wing, personally. It makes it look like one of those new focuses..bleh.

True enough. I'm pretty sure the only reason I think the GD is an attractive car at all is that I grew up watching it compete in the WRC. The new hatchback design has grown on me, but the new sedan just looks weird to me, especially with the wing. On the other hand, being ugly is part of Subaru's identity, and if I had the money I would still buy an 11 STi in a second. But if they still made the GD body style I'd rather buy one of those.

Why not use the standard 17" BBS with RE070 on the 2007? Instead of those heavy 5 spoke base STi wheels!? This test is flawed...

They were trying to eliminate tires from the equation. I suspect there probably just aren't many 07' stis running around that they had access too with the OEM tires. I don't know of too many people that replace their tires with super expensive, rock hard RE070s anyway. The 07' sti did get some heavier wheels but they are larger than the ones it originally came with. At least they kept the 11' in heavy stock wheels too.

This has been going off for a while now. I personally think driving sports should retreat for a while and stop making videos.

As atmosfear said, his 07 BBSs had winter treads on them, and the 2011 wheels/tires were the only ones they could add on short notice.

Fair or not, if each car has an identical wheel/tire setup, the 2011 is quite a bit faster on that course. I just find it ridiculous that we would spend many posts trying to insult the presenters or bragging about this year or that year because of this test. You own a 2007? You own an icon and a classic. You own a 2011? Awesome! You own a 2004? Bare-bones wicked!

It's funny to watch a community of enthusiasts sound so juvenile. Guess what? This time next year, my Subaru will be slower too. No one who loves their car should care.

The whole point of this video is to compare the 2007 STi to the 2011 STi, so maybe the video producers were the ones being juvenile. Like my father always said, if something's worth doing, it's worth doing right. This comparison wasn't worth doing and they did it wrong anyways.

You were expecting some scientific results that you could take and do what with? Prove that the 2011 is faster, even with heavier wheels and it's awesomer than every other STI? Or, that the 2007 was better so you could get your gloat on? Does either have any significance?

My argument is no.

I agree with this guy. The 07' was not tested as if came from the factory, so I find it hard to test it against another factory model when you hinder its performance with heavier stock wheels and tires. Obviously, the 11' is a much more superior chassis, but at least make the test between two showroom stock models.

Still very much worth the watch though

Yeah, I'm not going to get butthurt because someone says that the older Legacy Turbo or the new Legacy Turbo is faster than the car I own.

The one thing I notice is during the lapping the '11 look like it rotated better than the '07.

I've had an 04 and an 08. I was faster in the 08. The DCCD is not unchanged like he said. I loved the Auto[+] and the sport VDC. It let me push harder to get that faster time. The 08+ STIs I think are better for the "non racer" people like me. I am sure it would help the more experienced driver also. To each his/her own though. You like what you like. After owning both, I would have an 08+ anyday over the older one.

What I didn't like about the video is the fact they put heavier wheels on. It was said that was all they could do on short notice. Well, I think if you are going to put together a video like this, you should be better prepared.
