Does anyone talk about builds anymore?!
In my opinion, half the fun in owning a subaru is modifying it! I just went through thread titles for the last 2 months and the only build threads were Dan's Nissan and a swap for the late Mr. Sickles. I like reading about other people building cars, it's motivating and fun because I learn more.
I over modified my last car to the point where it wasn't fun, the car just stressed me out because of the money I dumped into it. I am taking a much more modest approach to my WRX now and here is my plans. Current mods; Invidia Catless DP Apexi Cat back Cusco rear sway with White line bushings (Thank you Solid Autoworks and Brody) Front and rear Ebay tower braces (Yay for Ebay) Ebay front limited lip with STi emblem Hertz upgraded speakers for F+R because the factory TR speakers blow! STi aftermarket blossom cherry red springs Carbon fiber roof vane spoiler On the list to get; Power VF39 or 43 or 48 STi TMIC Cobb intake Cobb pulley Suspension, brakes, aero and wheels StopTech SS lines, better fluid and pads Rota Torque 17x8 5x100 in either Hyper silver or Hyper black with Some Azenis in a 245/35 APR GTC-200 Seibon rear diffuser Debating on coilovers, if I do get them then the wheels will be 17x9's, and I would get Tein Monoflex. They are just so bleeding expensive! Other/misc Quality radiator shroud (not sure yet, I miss my cobb, thinking Cusco) ARC Alt. cover (Must.Have) Blackout headlights and HID 5K kit Tein Hood Dampers Crawford Air/oil sep. Things I like but not sure I'll get Gauges, I really like them, but I also really like not having them. Cleverly splitter Side skirts Front StopTech Big Brake Kit This is my daily driver, but I do want to do some track days here and there. I don't plan on winning by any means, but just to get out and have some fun.

I started a build thread kinda, it was awhile ago now and I haven't updated it for awhile either, but am waiting to get a good wash and wax and time to go snap some pictures.
And I know Brendon still has his big build thread going, although not sure if it's been updated in awhile either haha I don't think there are very many at the moment it seems. |

I have been tossing the idea of forged pistons, reverse manifold and a gt3071 rotated turbo, but like you I dont wanna end up in the hole so I am still debating going for more power or just a fun, fitted up daily driver. But on the bright side my car is payed for now so I will have a lot more mod money!

Rmic is the new age Facebook. Usually consisting of idiots up north complaining about E85 being out.

Most people post their builds in the members car gallery and updates in the "i got bored" thread.
This is what I have been up to: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2187044 |

yeah but now with that being either deleted or re-started it will probably be easier for people to creat their own build thread. Except Brendon cause his is a huge thread too so who knows

If i cared enough to take pictures/ thoroughly document everything i've done, i would make a build thread. But alas, i really don't care enough.

That's not really the case. There are people out there that take pictures of ****ing everything, and there are actually a lot of them.

I bought another car so I would leave my subaru alone. I realized that my car was about to the point where it was only fun to track but street driving was rough and noisy and getting harder to pass emissions every year, so I bought a Datsun that I could play with and fix up to keep me entertained. The Datsun doesn't need a build thread on since it's all about fixing stuff that doesn't work or that I want to change. It's fun to work on but I'm sure most people on here don't care about changing from a points distributor to a EI one or swapping the side markers for clear lower profile 510 lights. Maybe if I had something powder coated at unknowcoatings or it had stretched tires people would care.
It's good to see that your are back, you had one of my favorite cars on here. There are few people that do things right and build solid cars, yours was one. Tony's is the other super nice clean and well put together car. you just don't see many now that are well planed and put together. There are so many Subaru's now that are over modded and just look or drive like crap. The nice clean and solid built one are hard to come by now days. |

i disagree on the trans statement. i have the dyno charts and time slips to prove it too.
btw. 3071 is an overpriced 20g |

^^^ I could agree with the 3071 being overpriced for what you get. I think the 68HTA would be a great alternative. If I were to go bigger than a VFxx, that would be it.
Long term though, the wrx trans just doesn't hold well with power. I think Brody proved that again and again. |

Everyone I knew making over 310 whp, except azn2nr, with a wrx needed a trans upgrade.
Regardless, I'm going to keep it simple and looking for the right VFxx right now. |

Biggest turbo = less torque = no need for tranny in a fast car.

A 20g in my opinion is almost a perfect match for a 2.5 that is not being raced. I dont want gobs of power at the top of my gears, I want useable down low power. If I wanted a lot of power I would just go to a 35r but I think a 20g or 3071 would be about perfect for my goals. And on the transmission, if you don't beat it they will last a while but if you are over 300 whp you should be saving your money anyway just in case something happens.
I think the thing holding me back is knowing that either pistons or trans will fail shortly after the upgrade in power so I am not looking at just a turbo, but an entire power train being modified and I'm just not ready to drop that cash yet. If I did end up going reversed and rotated then I will do pistons and a ppg or Sti trans, but until then I'm saving my funds |

That's not true, we all know Brody can't drive. J/K Brody! I think it sounds like a good build, although I would go for more power. After having the Dom 3 on my TR, I always wanted more, 340 WHP was nice but it was never enough. I think right around the 400 WHP mark is perfect. I know that was the downfall for you James, but I think it was just a demon with that car. Just my $0.02.
