Baja
I ABSOLUTELY would buy another. I bought 2 in 2006, traded one in for the Impreza. The other is still going strong. I freakin LOVE this car. I hope they do bring it back. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

I like it. They should make another turbo charged version and put them on the lot.

I think they're cute but they just seem so small. I like that the Baja is bigger and just meatier looking than the Brat. Get rid of the standard tiny tires and the Brat does seem like it would be fun offroad. |

Yes, bring back the Baja!!
My wife owns a 2006 turbo that she is currently trying to trade on a 2011 Legacy 3.6R. I'm against it because I love the Baja. Here is a picture I found a while back of a concept. Not sure where it came from. |

If Ssangyong can build this:
Then Subaru should be able to build an SUT, too. Outback is not the choice for the donor. FORESTER is the logical donor. Slightly longer with a bed, and 4-doors. Tribeca drivetrain and hubs, brakes, including the 5x114.3 wheel bolt pattern. 6MT or robust-upgraded automatic, both with VTD-AWD, and torsen/helical rear diff. Subaru is rumored to be beefing up an automatic option for their boxer diesel. There should be a couple of engines offered, for efficiency with an FB25, premium upgrade with an EZ-H6, even if down to 3.2 liters to not step on Outback/Tribeca's toes. Ideally, there would be a boxer turbo-diesel from the overseas forester, perhaps in leu of an NA FB25 in this application. A turbo diesel and an H6 would be a pair of nicely efficient, yet torquey engine options, that wouldn't have issues with low RPM turbo lag and high highway RPM levels, both of which lower fuel economy. Limited edition STI with EJ257 turbo gas flat 4, for the enthusiasts, as an SUV/SUT Dakar Rally replica. And it should have skid plates and a Class 3 towing package, with transmission, engine, and possibly front-diff oil coolers, and at least an air-cooled finned-aluminum rear differential casing. What it can't carry in the bed, it should be able to pull on a trailer, within the limits of appropriate cargo. If the cargo gets too big, it makes more sense to buy a full-sized truck from another brand for that. But it should be able to pull a personal boat, a pair of watercraft, or a couple of motorcycles, a U-haul trailer, maybe even a car dolly trailer. 500lbs tongue weight, and 5000lbs gross trailer weight should be good. Tribeca is not quite the right body/interior donor. Too car-like and soft, and too close to the ridgeline's size, which is in-turn too close to the full-size truck market. This should be a small truck. that isn't bigger than a Forester, Outback, or Tribeca to park in a parking space. Last edited by HipToBeSquare; 03-14-2011 at 01:38 PM. |

Bigger bed
It would cool if the bed was bigger, more truck like.

The Forester sits on the the old Legacy platform, as does the current Impreza. I'd think that you want to keep it on Suabru's most modern platform, that way you get the updated driveline components.
