Default Faster than a Corvette Z06: 2013 Audi S8 Struts Its Stuff on Ignition

Quote:
So you watched the Audi S8 compete against the BMW 7 Series-based Alpina B7 on Head 2 Head; now you can watch the Audi S8 strut its stuff at the test track on the latest episode of Ignition.

As Carlos Lago demonstrates, the 2013 Audi S8 is one of the best sleepers on the market. It looks understated and dignified, but as Lago notes, its test-track acceleration numbers would match the Porsche Panamera Turbo and embarrass a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 owner.

After some time at the drag strip and on the figure eight, Lago drives the S8 in the real world to see how it performs outside of the controlled confines of a the test track. Though it exhibits some understeer, the S8 continues to impress.

Check out the latest episode of Ignition for yourself below.

How much more money does it cost over a Z06?

At first I thought this was an S version of the R8.... how do they compare a sedan to a sports car? There is nothing sporty at all about a S8. If I were shopping for a car I would never be cross shopping these.

The point is, it's a 4600 lb full size luxury sedan that does 0-60 in 3.5 sec. Not that you should be looking at one if you're shopping for a two seater sports car.

The 0-60 time is the most important statistic to measure differences in cars in the world.

I wonder how their trap speeds compare. . . and I hate to say this, but, I would take the Z06 interior over the S8 exterior.

(now S8 interior on a Z06... sign me up for that blasphemous combo).

Agreed. Seems like Porky Pig has been the chief designer for Audi since 2006. C&D said it well: "Goodbye Bauhaus, hello huge honker." The more svelte cars are better (2009+ A4, TT), but the A8 is just awful.

Audi and Acura need to see the same rhinoplasty specialist.

sheeesh ...that S8 starts at $110,000 !

some serious clams ~ it better be fast to 60mph

However the magazine racers can point to
Road & Track test of 3.6 secs for a Z06 to hit 60.

Doubt the Z06 owner would get

embarrassed
yay for sensationalism

I'm with you White out
the Interior on that S8 is nice.

Let me get this straight.. you guys are saying that they've restyled Audis in the past decade? They all look like the same old bars of soap to me... oh, I guess the flashy LED DRLs are newish, huh?

Bragging rights on 0-60 times are cool and all, but if I was looking for a limousine to haul my clients around I would want the quiet torquemonster of a turbo diesel under the hood. A 270ish hp diesel will feel very powerful to the passengers and you can easily conduct a business discussion. Big sedans are not sports cars, they are business cars.
