Default Thinking of going to Link from UTEC.

I'm seriously considering changing over to a Link system from my UTEC...my UTEC has been road tuned, if i get the link i would definetly get it dyno tuned.

The only things really holding me back are;
1) the lack of info i've found on the Link compared to the UTEC
2) all the money i would lose on the tuning of my utec...

Here are some of the problems i'm having with my UTEC. Maybe you guys can shed some light on it for me and save me the hassel of going to a link....

My biggest, biggest, biggest complaint is PTFB. I really dislike the way that the utec controls boost and with my Profec BII i get massive ptfb and the car stutters...Currently i have the low boost set to 9psi and i putter around on that, and when i want to go WOT i switch over to the high boost setting.

Does the Link system use the stock boost solenoid?? I think it does, but i could be wrong. Anyone having any ptfb issues with a link setup??

I also don't like letting the stock ECU handle my start-up, idle and such below 60% tps. With the 740cc injectors the car idles horribly sometimes and my EGT gague is on the fritz so i don't really know what's going on...

The car is a at a TXS stage 4+TMI, hopefully going to a fmic soon.

thanks guys.

If you are concerned with PTFB why not use the UTEC boost control? It sounds like you are using a standalone EBC at the moment. The mapping for boost control with the UTEC is setup to accomadate and run lower boost levels at lower TPS settings. That is how the boost map is mapped - TPS vs rpm. So you can solve the PTFB situation.

The Link would not have PTFB problems though since it uses MAP signal as load and so you have a "cell" for say 2000rpm and 15psi of boost regardless of what the TPS is. But something to consider is this. I have been doing a bit of compressor map research lately and maybe another reason the FHI enigeers designed the TPS/partial boost control setup the way they did was to avoid compressor surge. Becuase I even notice, in my STi, that if I floor it at a very low rpm value (say 1500-2000rpm) I will not get full boost... and besides I wouldn't want it there anyway. On a 2.0L I would get compressor surge with the Link and UTEC if I got full boost 18-20psi be even 3000rpm since the engine just can't injest that much air at that rpm. Just somthing to think about.

Personally I don't know enough about controlling injectors larger than 550cc with both systems. I tuned a Link and UTEC with basically STG4+ mods and the trust me you WANT the UTEC for all the <60% TPS/cold/hot start/cold/hot idle/etc... as those things take quite a bit of time and patience to dial in with a standalone like the Link.

When i was at my stage 3 setup i was using the TXS abc to control boost and really didn't like it. I was also considering getting an AVCR instead of the profec, but i've heard those are more complicated than the utec itself.

I may try putting the abc back in and playng with it a bit..maybe i just wasn't patient enough

were you using closed or open loop boost. I hated the open loop control, but I'm having great results with CLB

i honestly don't know. That was before i had a laptop to play with and i had a tuner tune it for me. Maybe this week i'll play around with it a bit.

The Link is great for load site tuning. If you have a sole purpose race/track/rally car the link is awesome. But for daily driveability the link blows. It is difficult to get all the special fuel settings correct. Especially starting. The Link needs constant attention to run perfectly all the time.

Hey man,

I had a link on my car for two years... mr2guru has it right.

I have two solutions for you

1) http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=506984

2) You gotta get the car back to me. Judging by your recent dyno plots (showing rich) and your poor idle, my guess is your 0% fuel column is off by a good margin. Basically, this would effect your long-term fuel trims and cause inconsistent fueling (via the stock ECU adjusting its broad fuel map). If we can clean up the fuel-trim and get rid of that damn boost controller, it'll all be gravy.
