At moderate sound levels, the stock head unit sounds fine after loudness and EQ are defeated. At higher levels, the speakers will sound better driven by an amplifier.

I used heavy duty double sided tape and did not remove the foam blocks. I posted a pic in the big impreza thread and possibly my diy lighting thread.
