What do I do now? Does it look bad? How much do you think it would be to repair?

****ty place to get a dent. Probably any paintless dent repair service could get it out, so google someone close to you.

I like that youre honest and admitted you backed into a mailbox, lol.

Good luck with the fix!

Looks pretty minor. Most body shops should be able to take care of that pretty inexpensively, all things considered. If you're feeling daring, pop the tail light out and take some wood and a ball peen hammer to it! (kidding)

Doesn't look too terrible. At least the mail box was kind enough to leave most of the paint on.

It gets worse and worse in the dry. Looks like it scraped the tail light also. I was thinking, if I didn't lower it 1.4 inches I would be just buying a new tail light.

Wow that looks a lot worse when it's dry. If I were you I'd at least put some touch up paint or something on it so it doesn't rust where the paint got knocked off.

Always looks better when its wet

On another note since Subaru paint scratches so easily it is also easy to fix. If you have some compound you should be able to take a lot of the scuff out except for where its a deep scratch. They have plastic scratch remover too, not the greatest but it does something. That just leaves the dent to deal with.

Yeah I know. The paint had already been all cracked from the dent left from the previous owner but none of it actually had been removed until I hit this sweet mail box. I can't wait to get this fixed...

I might take some Meguiars Ultimate Compound to it tomorrow.

Thanks for the help everybody!

Take it to a professional. Save money ahead of time by not attempting to repair it yourself. You could use touch up paint on it and that's about it.

You can touch it up with paint but the dent will still be there and the paint issues will still be grossly visible.

Only real way to fix that is to take it to a professional. Nothing else will be even decent enough to be worth trying.

I hate to go down this road, but if your comprehensive deductible is low enough, file a comp claim. Should not hurt your premiums as it is comprehensive and could save you some dough.

That would be a collision claim, not comprehensive.

Vision, It depends on insurance companies take on it.

My friend backed into a post at my house, called his insurance company and filed a claim. They told him as long as it wasn't on a public road, involving another vehicle, or any other type of collision, it would be considered comprehensive.

Just my .02

OP, if you want to know the true cost, go to a local reputable body shop and get an estimate, they are free. Weigh your options on either paying for it, living with it, or contacting your insurance agent to see what they have to say.

Every company Ive dealt with defines comprehensive as Vandalism, Theft, Acts of Nature, etc. Some consider Hit and Runs (where you are the victim) comprehensive, some collision. If you are driving, it is a Collision.

Else people could just hit **** all day and not be penalized for it.

(This is assuming you file the claim truthfully..)

^^I guess there are too many variables for us to decide. I just wanted to give him an option. He may not even have full coverage and liability only.....we may never know.

Good Luck OP!

They don't call it "Ultimate Compound" for nothing. I just need the dent bumped out and the paint touched up and it will be almost good as new.

I had some of that stuff it worked alright. I bumped up too meguiars medium cut glaze, I think it's #7 for most of the cars I detail. It's a little rough for Subaru paint though, end up with more to fix than when you started

Glad it looks better OP! Just some beauty marks is all.

Try popping it back out if possible. I believe if you open up the trunk and pull down the right side of the trunk liner. This will give you an opening to use a tool to try paint less dent repair.
