Correction..

HP = (Flux capacitor watts)^3 X (vtec/turbo/nitrous)

Oh you're back.

The only reason Subaru's make so much more torque than power is because they have a turbo that can push a lot of air in the midrange RPM's and tuner's choose to put in a huge boost peak. Then by the high RPM's (where power would really take off) the turbo is running out of breath so boost drops (and therefore torque and power). If you tuned a flat boost curve it is easily possible to get the numbers you mentioned.

Here's a real world example:

And here's one Jr. did when testing:

Yup. With stockers and winter I noticed a lot of salt kick up and rock chips behind them. I got mud flaps for Christmas and the kick up is all but gone

Yup! Just post pics here. We probably won't even know the difference (unless we see your darker interior trim)

The pillar trim and headliners were a dark grey compared to the light grey in the WRX's. I didn't know that the 2013's were all getting the dark trim. I know the Halloween special editions were getting it though...

that's wondertasticful but its the exception, not the norm

its still sad that these things give out after 4000 miles at 400lb ft or 335whp or 400 whp with 400 lb ft wtf is the difference..the point is that shouldn't be enough power to require a rebuild of a factory boosted engine..the point has nothing to do with all possible subaru torque to hp ratios.

why don't you go do some nice drag launches with your built tranny..im sure it wont explode or anything

difference between 335whp/400wtq and 400whp/400wtq is a few car lengths. you really think there wouldn't be a difference? or did i miss something.

It's 100% the crap stock pistons that do it to our engines. The internals on a stock EJ257, excluding the pistons :P, are good for 450whp/wtq easy. Drop in a set of pistons and you're good to go for the most part.

And I agree, Ben go to the track!!

no one ever understand what I'm trying to say..lol

they are being anal because I referenced the whp instead of the torque..has nothing to do with how fast anything is

Thanks for all the replies. I definitely want to save my paint for as long as possible while being able to hoon around as much as possible.

Looks like I'll be biting the bullet and buying some RA flaps.

Not if you can do it yourself... Lol

And even if you do have to pay $1000 for a set of pistons + install (guesstimated install price), still pretty cost effective versus waiting for the engine to go boom and then buy a built block

no i mean its a big deal to do it yourself...or if nothing else, time consuming

also the pistons alone are like $600 anyway, not sure who you are gonna get to remove your engine and change your pistons for $400. You should probably change the rods while you are in there anyway

Yeah it definitely is at that. And yeah like I said, I wouldn't know what the installation cost might be, as I do all the work myself. I have a buddy of my mine who's prepped and built several cars for the Newfoundland Targa Rally who would definitely give me a good deal to install them. He has a ~430whp 20gxtr STi on meth himself

Not sure about the Rods, I think if I were to change them you may as well go big and get the turbo-tuff Manley Rods or cosworth or similar. I cant see the basic rods being any stronger than the stock STi ones?

Basically. Spend big money on rods or just use the stock STI rods. My STI rods are handling 500WTQ fine, but it's probably near their limit.

I think I can probably DIY it (with some help from my friend anyway) it but I need to practice on something that isn't going into a DD..lol. I don't pay people to install things other than tires

if you are JUST dropping in pistons then to "change the rods while you're in there" would be quite a bit more work. If the block is destroyed and you are building from scratch then yeah.... throw in rods while you're at it.

I have hard rods. (insert inappropriate joke here...sorry had to). They are Manley and turbo tuff!!!

I think what a lot of people forget about building up a Subaru is that..yes it is factory boosted...but only to 305 crank HP max. When you start talking about 400+ whp, that is a HUGE percentage increase. It is no different in any other tuning platform that is factory boosted when you start talking about percentage increase (except for maybe the EVO but it runs into other issues at that percentage).

I have heard of some stage 2 level cars (specifically 08 STI's) that have had issues, but for the most part that is rare.

I would post a picture of my car...but it is back in the shop again. BUT...there is a surprise when it gets out.
