Default Check out this tire by TOYO!

so i just got the chance to try it out yesterday at Buttonwillow.... MAN THESE TIRES ARE CRAZY GOOD!!!! the car felt a lot more responsive ( i thought i was driving an evo for a second...) and the grip is just crazy good! Tire pressure didnt change very much, and seem to perform best at around high 30's up to 40 PSI. Threadwear shows 140.... but i do think it's underrated quite a bit since there's no real wear and tear after 1 track day... so i think these will be quite good for anyone who's looking to use something for daily and track and dont mind paying to play

Are these the Japan-labeled R888s? Or something different?

no no, definetly not a DOT R compound. It's comparable to the RE01-R BUT! these are lighter, (3 pounds for 265/35/18 size), they measure 10mm wider than the listed spec, and omg they are super sick!!!! Currently, they only have the following available

235/40/17
255/35/18
265/35/18

It's 140 Threadwear with AA traction and A temperture. I SWEAR, IT'S QUITE POSSIBLILY THE BEST STREET TIRE EVER!!! at the same time, it's not too bumpy of a ride, and it's quiet... what more can you ask for from a tire??

no pricing really listed yet, but suppose to be listed at around the same pricing as the RE01R

I can say that these do perform better in light rain due to my experience coming home yesterday comparing to the RE01-R. But yeah, i'm in LOVE with these tires right now....

dude, i swear to you, it's not what i expected, but you will love these over the re01-r's... i was using the 265/35/18 re01r's and man... they're nothing like these... so much lighter, so much more response, so much more traction, and man, after the whole day at the track, almost no visible track wear!!!

i dont believe it's the same compound as the R888, but i could be wrong. as for the tread wear, i really think it's rated lower than it should be... on my experience with T1R, i was not able to wear them out with 3 track days and tons of mountain runs and some donut sessions and it's only rated at 220 or 280? i'm looking at my tires right now and i did run the car hard on sunday, and it really has no crazy visible wear... so iono, i think it'll last quite a bit...

compound is directly related to ambient operational temperature range. if it can't sit in the cold, its a very soft compound. UHP tyres can sit in the winter, they lose performance, but they won't crack.

my re01rs show minimal wear except for the tearing from my spins at autoX this season. we'll see how the reviews are. i'm interested because there is a 15" in 225 width, which would be nice to have in a street tyre beyond spec miata width.

aw yes a good point being brought up.. bridgestones are known for their stiff side walls.. but i really am open to different choice in tire... also henry, you still owe me a good photo of the rear diffuser.

My 070's have a super stiff sidewall as well...at first I thought my alignment was really screwed up because of the way the car would move from hitting bumps and whatnot. First time on real good tires for me

i actually think this sidewall is the same if not STIFFER than the RE01-R... it's soooo responsive that i really thought i was driving an EVO for the first couple of laps!

sorry about the pics thing... i promise to get it up as soon as i get some good pics!

Why does this sound like dunnojack owns stock in Toyo?

Really sounds interesting though as I have had my eye on RE01Rs for a while now.

well, i dont blame you for thinking that... but man... i did not expect much difference when i tried out the tire (keep in mind that i have been using the RE01R's for the entire season after trying the Neovas and RT615) and these tires were just amazing! I'm a true believer in these tires and like i said in previous posts, i thought i was driving an evo for a while! my first 5 laps were all bad due to too early of a turn-in because i was so use to driving the RE01R's. Just the lighter weight alone was a world of difference when i first put on the tire....

Wow...since you have been on all 3 of those tires, how do these new Toyo's stack up to the other two (since you have already compared them to the RE01R's and like these better.

Are these giving you better lap times? Are they getting greasy after heating up during the laps?

I definetly would not suggest the RT615 for any cars heavier than 3000 pounds... they heat up so fast but overheat real bad. As for the Neova, they were very close to the RE01R but it was a bit more tough to heat up. but i did only have 1 day in them, so not too much feedback.

as far as lap times goes, i'll have to go back again before i can give a definet answer, but let's just say that i can go faster and using a higher gear so.... i guess that's helpful

Here's an interesting question. I find the RE01R to be quite a civil tire for daily use. Would you consider the Toyo tires as daily driver friendly as well?
