Williaty: if you can, test the afr and other parameters in the entire rpm range or in a few different ranges to see where it helps/hurts the most. if you PM me data id be happy to make some graphics to show visually what changes occurred like graphs, plots, etc.

I ordered the Group A Pitch Stop (engine mount) and it took 10 days from shipment to the time it arrived in Minnesota (right next to canada mind you). Must be homeland security issue... automotive parts = terrorism risk.

My cosmo intake came from Canada and took only one day to clear customs. Then it took the standard shipping time. I got it in the standard 7-10 day shipping time and upon watching it with the tracking info it didnt take any longer because of customs whatsoever.

I'll be curious to see what williaty's testing shows. I had no reliable way to compare fuel consumption, so I only had the dyno results.

After the fact, I realized that I could have done something like this on the dyno. I ran the car on a Dyno Dynamics, which is a load bearing dyno, so I could have had them run the car up to Xmph at Y dyno load both with and without the TBS installed. Then I could have logged load and MAF using my Pocketlogger to see if there was any difference. Unfortunately, like I said I came up with that thought after I had already done the dyno testing, so it was too late to try that out.

Quite worth it for a few extra horsepower and that amazing sound!

This claim pops up repeatedly, but it just doesn't make any sense. A larger intake plenum should raise the RPMs at which peak torque occurs, not lower it. Subaru actually used variable volume intake plenums on the SVX's EG33 and the '01-04 Outback EZ30. The mechanism works to make the plenum smaller at low RPMs and larger at high RPMs so that there are effectively two torque peaks.

With that said, intake manifold design is a pretty complex thing, with lots of variables at play that can affect how well the manifold performs. Longer runners tend to boost low end performance at the cost of top end. Obviously the TBS won't change the length of the runners, but perhaps there is some improvement in low end with the TBS as a result of the throttle body to intake valve distance being increased? My personal dyno testing seemed to show essentially no difference in TBS vs. non-TBS down to maybe 3000 or 2500rpm or so, but I didn't try to test any lower than that.

You get better mileage in city driving than in highway driving?! How do you manage that magic trick? Even with a 10% shorter-than-stock 5th gear (so I'm doing 10% higher RPMs on the highway) I easily get better mileage on the highway than in city driving.

Realistically, a TBS can only influence the amount of air entering the engine, so the airflow will tell the tale for power. I'll also be using the RPM data to calculate intervals (i.e., does it go from 50-70 or 20-50 faster or slower than it used to, etc.).
I assume you have some good, level testing ground where you can get good repeatability? You seem to have this thought out pretty well, so I imagine the answer is YES, just checking.

First off it was an M5.
The kid had the limiter removed.
He was doing in excess of 160.
He had a car full of extra weight.
He was 18. The car had 500hp.

If someone who most obviously has more driving experience and brains than an 18 year old wants to drive the **** out of an M3 at an airstrip by all means let him. I think he will know when to brake, and I don't think he will invite 4 of his friends either.
I cant believe that you can compare people like that.

I call it like I see it. Trying to test the top speed of your car on a runway that you shouldn't be on, running from the cops, and then coming onto a internet forum and telling others about it as though you were providing valuable advice strikes me as pretty frickin' idiotic.

Yeah, i still dont understand that, but whenever i go out of town for a race or something me and a couple buddies caravan and we are doing 80 or so most of the time and my mileage goes to ****. I dont know why, just thought that my engine being spun up to 3400rpm was drinking it up like a fish. I havn't crunched number for mpg's but i have noticeably fewer miles on my trip odo when i have to fill up.

If you want to pass judgement about my choice to break the law, thats fine but dont ever assume that I am putting anyone else in danger or being careless. I think that doing illegal high speed runs on a runway is a much better idea than doing them on a public road. And I don't know but I could guess that you have exceeded the speed limit before on a public road. You endanger many more people by speeding (or even driving legally) on a public road than on a pristene strip of concrete closed to other vehicles. Well the speed limit on a runway is a bit higher and there is no traffic. (no, runways dont actually have speed limits, I know. I'm making a point) It han handle very heavy aircraft traveling near 200mph, i think a 3500lb car designed to do 150+mph will be just fine. So next time you are about to call someone an idiot based on a breif vague description of what they did once, don't be a dickhead.

So if Williaty did the same thing as I, and didnt have his bases covered in terms of having permission to use said runway, I should have not warned him about it? I don't understand.

You sir, are a condescending prick.

At 80mph I'm doing 4000rpm with the Outback 5th gear I've got. Something definitely doesn't make sense. I'm trying to think of what could lead to such poor highway mileage (and such excellent city mileage). When you originally posted your mileage numbers I just assumed you had them backwards. To get 26-28mpg in city driving is even more unusual than getting 23mpg on the highway.

That's all great. I'm sure your employer would've been thrilled you were doing it, right?

Yes, I have. And when the police try to stop me for it, I pull over, because I'm man enough to accept responsibility for breaking the law.

williaty's data gathering has nothing to do with trying to test the top speed of his car nor running from the police.

Oh, and let's keep this thread on topic. We need it.

He didn't RUN from the cops, HE evaded them on his own turf. Something most anyone would do. RUNNING from the cops is a whole different show....

Stop calling someone on something that you have no right to. He was on PRIVATE property, in a controlled environment doing his thing. If you want to take it past there, feel free, but you made your point and so did we.
