TXS Stage 4 - What Other Mods HAVE To Be Done To Ensure Safety & Reliability??????
Ok, sorry for the rather long thread title...but I'm being serious here and I really need some honest feedback. I'm very seriously considering a TXS Stage 4 setup with their TMIC and UTEC.
My '02 WRX is otherwise stock. I know this will be a big jump in power, but what other mods must I do in order to ensure the daily drivability of my car? I will probably never autocross it, nor take it to a race track. I'll launch hard from stops once in a while (once every few days or so, for the joy) and pretty much not abuse it. I'll kill a few Civics and Vettes along the way...but you get the picture. Spirited runs through canyons, quick driving here and there, but not endless drag races, autocrosses, and race-track runs. Will the car's stock suspension hold up? The stock clutch? Stock flywheel? Stock driveshaft? Stock brakes? I have Z-rated tires and 17" Katana Racing wheels, but other than that, I don't have any mods done. I know that StopTech brakes are getting good reviews, and it's probably a good idea to get larger brakes. But honestly, people, what other mods should logically be completed in order to ensure the safety, reliability, and daily drivability of the car? I don't want a car that can tear up the 1/4 mile and go very fast in a straight line but not be able to handle the curves because I have gobs and gobs of HP, but not a nicer suspension to match it. Sorry for the long thread, but after spending $6,000 in my ride, I want to be able to have the peace of mind that I avoided any mishaps that I could have along the way. So, my $6,000 is pretty much going into Stage 4 (~$3,800), TMIC (~$850) and UTEC (~$1,000). Should I be doing it another way? Less on power, more on suspension? I know everybody has an opinion...and that's the point...I want all the opinions (educated) I can get. Thanks, X

I already asked that same question. Do a search for "TXS stage 4" and username "hobbzz", I think it's in factory forced induction. I got something like 21 replies.

Thanks man...I'll look into it right now.
By the way...did you end up getting the Stage 4 kit? If so, what do you think about it? If not, why didn't you get it? |

Very nice thread hobbzz. Thanks for the referral.
One question wasn't answered though: is the TXS TMIC too big for their Stage 4 kit? Answer: I think it'll be just fine, right? The only thing in the way would be the larger turbo, but other than that, I don't see any issues. Right? |

The VF30 is not much bigger then the stock turbo physical size wise and fits in to the stock location just fine. The fitment issues with the big TuboXS TMIC will be on any car reguardless of what stage/mods you have. It's huge and is a tight fit, it will rub/ against the rear A/C line so that needs to be padded/protected. As the $3800 for stage 4 was with the unichip, you can get the stage 4 withe the UTEC for $4000, but would just have to wait until the UTECS are availible. On the suspention side my wagon is stock except for a 17" subzeros with Kumho rubber. Just up the street from work there is an office park that has a nice set of curvy roads, and at night it is devoid of people/cars etc. I have gone up there a few times made like a bandit through the twisties with no problem. I am sure if I would to sit there and make pass after pass for and 30min or so that I would start to notice the brake fade but by then I am sure the cops would be there asking why I am doing. I have gone through some of the same things as you, wondering if brakes, suspension etc need to be upgraded with the power. I think it comes down to what you are gong to do with the car, and if that is a daily driver them then most of that is not necessary but could be added as a personal preferance as none of it would hurt but would probably only make the car better in some fasion. |
