equal vs. unequal length headers
Ok I've asked and looked around and can't really get any CLEAR answers of the major difference between an equal length header vs. unequal length. the most I can procure is "equal length is crap!" No real definitive info to back that up. I'm looking into upgrading the entire exhaust system with perring exhaust. I'm pretty much doing everything I can perrin with my soon to be 2013 wrx premium hatch. Just easier that way but I want to know is there a performance difference or just a sound difference and if so what they are

There is both a performance and sound difference. ELH will give higher performance but will lose the boxer rumble Subaru enthusiasts love.

I have equal lengths on both of my subies and love it... I probably won't go back to boxer rumble any day soon...

My car came with ELH so I've never had that boxer rumble. It will end up saving me some $ as I can keep the OEM headers when I upgrade my turbo in the spring.

Went to EL a while back. Sometimes I miss the rumble but not enough to switch back. Sound is still throaty just not as deep or low of a tone. Function over form, always.

Headers or no headers, the set up I'm getting will give me at least 305-310 whp. And I'm very happy with that. I'd eventually like to get to around 350 or so but for now that's an awesome start with just simple bolt ons. I think I can deal with a slight lack in performance from UEL to keep the deep rumble of the boxer motor I fell in love with. Thanks guys for the different views

it always bothered me that people in their old muscle cars can go all cammed out, rip out the cats and go straightpipe and the police could have a subaru pulled over, shouting at the top of his lungs while the muscle car drives by behind him "DO YOU KNOW WHY I PULLED YOU OVER TODAY?! YOUR CAR IS PRETTY LOUD!!" |

Here is what mine sounds like full throttle with the JDM equal length. I love it, it sounds nasty once opened up but has some rumble below 3k. I know you have heard my car in person as well, whenever we went to the meets. Perhaps this will help.
