Default Closed Deck EJ20G swap in 02 WRX??? What esle do i need?

So i found a Closed EJ20G....i was thinking of swapping it in my WRX. But, how hard would this process be? Can't seem to fin much info on it???

What i was going to buy:

The bare EJ20G block w/ piston squirters (freshly hones)
JE 8.5 pistons
ACL Race bearings

What else do i need?
I was thinking a EJ25D or EJ22 crank knife edged/polished/hot tank'd etc.
Rods
APR Head/Rod Bolts
Thicker head gasket (size unknown)
Ported WRX heads w/ 272s or 280s/ valvetrain
Use the current WRX Fuel/IM/TGVs (deleted), or anything that touches the head.
I am guessing my header will bolt up to this block also.
What about oil pan/ pickups etc?
GT-35R
Would this even work?

Will the flywheel wheel bolt up and work with a 02 trans?

I haven't heard much of this swap and confused as hell when trying to find info? Need to know before i purchase the block. The only thing i did hear was rumors that they had cooling issues from the coolant port being to small? Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Thanks Guys,
Anthony

well its just like rebuilding you 2.0 except it has a closed deck & piston squirters.
not sure if it would really be a "hybrid"
aftermarket aluminum radiator wouldn't hurt.

Have a aluminum rad already and will be swapping in the 160 thermo also and having the fans kicking sooner.

I'm sketchy becuase the thick headgasket i would have to use for the piston to clear the head........with the already problematic overheating issue.

So once i get the clearances sorted out it would just be a straight drop in of sort.

Anyone know crank i should use?

Good to hear.......boggles me is to why no one ever uses them? Cheap closed deck 2.0s.

True......damn decisions......

But i need the -------- (forgot name) on the middle of the crank (older style) with this block; instead of, on the end like the newer cranks.

Can't think of the verbiage right now.....gosh whats it called.

didn't search too hard eh?

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1082001

Its a hybrid but more important, it walks you though an entire engine rip out and install. He calls out most of the items that we need to to do hybrid (not much) so just use oem there and you're good.

"Thrust bearing" is the word you're looking for.

I've read that one but......that is for a EJ257....i was trying to fin the main differences for swapping in a EJ20G. The old school V4? (i think) STi motor.

Problem with the swap i found so far is piston clearance to the heads. I'm more asking who has put an older (phase 1) 2.0 with newer (phase 2) heads, fuel, oil pan, pickups etc.

He is swapping a Phase 2 Motor with Phase 2 heads and externals.

Thrust bearing thank you. I went through the alphabet trying to figure out what the hell it was.

Its very doable, there are tons of threads here and some on rs25 about using almost everything off and ej205, and using a 20g block. And yeah old ej blocks have the thrust bearing the the center, but new ones have them in the the rear. Having the thrust bearing in the rear of the block is a better place for it. so if you didnt want to drop the cash on a fancy center thrust forged crank, you can take the 20g block and have it machined, the the thrust bearing is in the rear.

Try bbs.legacycentral.org they have alot of info on there.
Look through the forums and find a screen name with 555? in it, (im at work and that site is blocked) and search his posts/threads he knows alot. Also in the build journal i have a thread started with my build the guys in my thread know alot too. My build is 94' legacy wagon turbo started by iluvdrt. That should get you started.
