Default Short vs. Full Length Intake

I see short intakes and the long intakes for 02 WRX's, which is better? Is one actually better than the other or just a preference kind of thing?

short ram intakes are better.. I think long intakes are cold air intakes and they are suppose to be REALLY bad for Subarus

Long= cold air intake (CAI). Your suby already comes with a CAI, even though it's not as pretty. short= Short ram, sucks air from inside the engine bay, which is hotter. Mostly you shouldn't worry about an intake, as your factory one is very sufficient.

I thought that a cone filter on the end of the cold air intake was a garunteed hp gain?

Nope. Your car comes tuned for the stock intake--changing it is no guarantee of anything.

N/A subaru's can make power off of an CAI. But most turbo subaru's don't like intakes of any type and I've heard of cases where hp has dropped. IF you ever go to a local autocross most of the subarus there will have stock intake boxes. it might be afully preped car in that class with a stock intake box.

but as far as short vs long goes if it was an N/A subie. short ram has a shorter path for air to get to the intake manifold vs longer one with cold air getting to it.
