Baking headlights tale
Let's the story begin...
Few months ago painted my car white. Wasn't really happy with the way how headlights looked like. Decided to remove plastic amber pieces and paint the housing semi-gloss black. Came out great! Before: Then: After:

What kind of paint do you guys use for this? Also did you sand and or use adhesion promotor or primer to prep before you painted? I have my 06 lights appart right now trying to decide what to paint with...

And everyone is ok with painting over the shiny reflectors for the turn signal? You know that means the only angle anyone can see the front turn signal from is when approaching directly from the front. When i did mine I put masking tape over the reflector portion and painted the rest black.

very nice, gonna definitely use this a a resource, on the bugeye's all you did was take out the chrome reflectors on the turn signal and parking light right? as in you didn't paint the reflector

I don't think it's "hate" to comment on a valid safety concern, nor was the tone of his post even remotely hateful (jpmonty's childish post, on the other hand... ). Not everyone considers such things when they are modifying their cars, so a friendly reminder isn't a bad thing.

I used Rust Oleum Painter's Touch semi gloss black. You can paint without primer , just make sure you don't touch that chrome housing before painting

I have used any number of rattlecan paints without sanding and/or priming but definitely do not touch any chromed plastic surfaces that will be painted or adhesion will be compromised.

At Wally World (Wal-Mart) they sell KRYLON Fusion for Plastic. No sanding or priming just bake and spray. I used flat black but they do sell satin and gloss as well as other colors. Just make sure you don't have any thing on your hands because any oil or grease will make the paint bubble and not stick. (Looks like poo too!) |

Wow, those all look great. Is there a write-up somewhere on the bugeye headlights? I want to do this but I am afraid that I will mess something up. In that pic with the bugeye headlight in the oven, isnt it really close to the top heating element in the oven. Wont that melt the plastic being that close?
