Thumbs up Yellow WRX confirmed: But! only 425 shipped to states.

I went to Franks Irvine Subaru today to get some info on the WRX. Even though yellow is not shown in the brochure,it will be available in limited quantities. Now, this info is from the dealer, so don't kill the messenger. The yellow WRX will come with the wing standard, whereas all other WRXs will have it as an option. They stated that only 425 will come to North America because yellow is strictly an STi color in Japan.

Irvine Subaru is taking orders right now at sticker. All they ask is a $200.00 deposit. They car is due to arrive sometime around March 15th. After the car arrives, the price will be anywhere between $2000.00 and $4000.00 OVER sticker. So if you want yellow, you had better hurry up.

These are some things that I noticed from the WRX brochure:

1) Aluminum hood
2) MOMO steering wheel
3) Stainless brake lines standard.

I'm sure that there are other major differences that I have not noticed.

They had a lot of the new 3.0 liter Outbacks there. I had a chance to look closely at the engine. The new 6 has chains instead of timing belts. I thought that was pretty freakin neat.

As for us getting "raped" in CA.... While this is true in MOST other cases, I have to disagree here..... I think this is a PURE case of capitalism.... supply and demand.... I'd say there is a LOT more demand for WRX's in import mad CA than in V8 mad AL.

Not sure how much things have changed, but I know up to as little as a few years ago, SOA seriously frowned on dealers charging anything over sticker for any car. When the Outbacks started to sell like hotcakes, a dealer in the Penn-Jersey region started to try and get over sticker for them. They were reported to SOA and for one allotment( not sure how long that is), they were denied any Outbacks whatsoever and were threatened of losing their franchise if it happened again. True story.

Again, things may have changed, but that used to be a no no with SOA.

I must say that while supply & demand could be an issue, I don't think that it is in this case. I'm not even buying my WRX in Alabama, going somewhere else because my local dealer has trouble spelling WRX. I would imagine that California is getting a large number of WRXs based on demographics. I think what it is is more greed than supply and demand. Just look at the number of dealers throughout the country who are not selling for more than MSRP and the few that are willing to sell at cost+.

As Glenn already stated, 450 is the number we were given firsthand by SoA. 450.

And as Shik pointed out, SoA is worried about price gouging. We specifically asked Mike Whelan about this in Detroit. He didn't give us a definitive answer as to what SoA was doing/going to do about it, but he acknowledged they didn't like it. So hopefully the dealers will be mindful of this.

The dealers should be happy as hell that people are coming in and ordering the cars, even if they buy them for between the invoice and MSRP. The dealer still gets holdback, based upon the MSRP. More importantly, the dealer won't have to pay any INTEREST for the car to sit on his lot.

Hey Rex! Good to see another homebody here. My mom is in Fayette Co. I may come back to get my WRX, and have it regestered there. That way I can mod it anyway I want and not have to deal with the sniffer. I moved to DC 5 years ago, kept my tag, and haven't had a problem yet with vehicle registration. If worse comes to worse, I will go to the 'Sipp or Hotlanta, and have it shipped here. I may get a better deal in the'Sipp cause they don't know what a WRX is.
