I too hope Anchorage follows suit. However it would be a tough battle down here. I am not privy to FBXs budgets, but with a mass defecit, I dont see anchorage giving up their cash cow of an IM program. Add ontop of that the "greenies" still claiming its the cause of clean air, and the business such as "peger road I/M & Repair". Which I bet their income is mostly IM based as well as any repairs necessary to pass IM.
I DOOOO hope it takes and Anchorage follows suit. If nothing else, woudl give Anchorage more ammunition. |

FAI has a lot less people to worry about too. There's 360k+ people here within 60 miles of 99501 ANC.

Anchorage should get rid of I/M and install more red light cameras.

Seriously though Marshall, I dont think Anchorage would go for red light camera's. The populous successfully voted against the white Spped camera vans some years back, so doubt they'd allow cameras at red lights. Not to mention how much outrage there would be in winter months when the intersections get icy. |

anchorage has already been through that process mulitple times with the vote being flipped from it going away to it staying. They finally decided on it staying and changed to rules a bit.

If people are worried about red light cameras, they should quit running red lights.

I'm not worried about it. It's just leaving it up to a machine to make a judgement call when machine's don't see reason.

Cash cow of an I/M? It's simple, registration costs would go up to compensate for that. That is why the Valley's Reg is more than Anchorage's. The state will get their money either way.
And promote clean air? seriously? A volcano just went off guys c'mon now. |

That reminds me...I need to renew my registration. I was hoping to have moved to a new city so I wouldn't have to do the stupid I/M.

I don't know why you guys care anyways, I've yet to fail an IM in Alaska with modified cars. Even with bigger turbo setups most of the mainstream IM shops don't know what the difference is, as long as you're not throwing codes and your car idles relatively clean just call it good. My old WRX i had running pig rich for a while, still passed. The things like the different motor, slightly bigger turbo, different intercooler, and missing vac diagram on the hood didn't deter it passing, twice.
If it's a money saved thing, well they will just raise something else up. |

That sucks, I've yet to have one fail from the visual, even with very obvious things missing. I dunno about the rest of you, but keeping a very clean engine bay goes a long way towards a fast inspection. My experiences have shown that they tend to spend a lot less time critiquing a clean engine bay then a dirty one. Of course that's just my luck not necessarily a standard or fact.

I have heard that the State can take over the program even if a city decides to vote against it.
