Default engine balancing problems on lightned pulley?

does anyone know if you replace the stock power pulley that drives alternator, power stee. etc throws the engine out of balance which can do serious damge to your engine? ive heard horror stories on other cars but im not sure about subbys.

The crank pulley is the one to worry about with other cars/engines. As far as I know, Subaru does not use a harmonic balancer on the end of the crank (pulley) It is just a heavy two piece pulley with a rubber insert. That is what I learned before I put my lightweight crank pulley on. The other pulleys should have no effect on balancing at all (if they are made decent) My two cents. Brian

Subaru Does NOT have a harmonic balancer due to the h4 or even h6 design. I have the full lightened pulley set (crank, alt and power steering) and all I have had problems with is going to fast...

The opposing piston design (H piston format) naturally cancels out vibrations from the engine.

How long have you guys had your pulleys on? Just curious because I have one I haven't installed becasue I heard of the misfire codes and pulled timing problems they were creating if you didn't have any engine management (aftermarket, of course).

The two piece design with rubber insert is a harmonic damper. It is used on the H-4 and H-6 engines to dampen vibrations through the crankshaft.

The part is heavy (for a reason) and expensive to manufacture (multiple steel components, adhesive, rubber). Why would Fuji use them if they weren't beneficial? Certainly the one piece machined pulleys sold are lighter and easier (read cheaper) to make. If they were so good (and cheap) FHI would have been using them for years, saving millions of dollars.

Do the makers of these pulleys design engines or make parts?

So, is the engine internally balanced? Balanced on the crank rather than on the flywheel or flex plate?

to minimize NVH and subsequent/numerous complaints about NVH would be my guess.

I just installed a 7.5" custom crank pulley. Barely lighter than the stock pulley but 2.25" larger in diameter. Have yet to drive it but starts and idles fine. It is for my supercharger since I cant make a smaller supercharger pulley.
