oh man would that not be tempting.. all that seems to do is make people like us see how fast we can get it to go haha.. sort of counter productive... or maybe its doing its job perfect.. lets face it.. they dont want to prevent speeders.. they just want to catch more of them...
where was that sign again?! SCRAPPYDO |

That is definetly in KPH... I think that was only about 105mph or so. 50kph = about 30mph.
I've seen them on streets aronud here... yes, VERY tempting. |

We have them on alot of bases and you would be suprised how many people do 80-90 when the sign on the thing says 25 . Heck any thing 20mph over posted is reason for them to put you in the brig till someone from the command comes to get you. They mostly give tickets for anything over 5mph but I had a friend that got a ticket for 28 in a 25.
He had to see the base majistrate(sp?) and he got reamed but afterwords with his promising not to do it again and admitting his mistake it was torn up [whew it was only 3mph]. Rich |

Actually, I think it might be in mph. I have the same pic saved from a Corvette ZR-1 page. Those things can and will go that fast! Of course you need the right road.

I have alot of those signs around where I live. Almost everyone tries to see how fast they can go by it though. |

The best thing to do would be to hook that thing up to your hitch and take off Mind you most of us don't have hitches on our RS' but it would be funny anyway.

I remember the association of my old neighborhood complained abuot excessive speed, so they put one of those up on the end of the road. So, hey, my friends and I put it to good use. We took out our R/C cars and ran 'em. I was kinda surprised that the thing did pick 'em up, but hey, it was cool anywayz.
Don btw... Yokomo Yr-4GP 2speed tranny..... 59mph. |

Yeah, those numbers are metric - KM/H. My ultimate speed thrill is getting a photo-radar to take a picture of my butt on my mountain bike!
These kinds of "speed traps" are more to encourage people to keep to the speed limit. I know that in my city, schools "borrow" them from the police to encourage motorists to keep to the 30km/h speed limit in school zones. LaterZ! Darren!! |

Nat is right. Motor Trend did an article about 6 years ago on the "Fastest Cars you can buy in America" or something like that. That pic was in the article, and it was for the ZR-1 which hit 167.

Around here we have 'em, but they usually put them in high-traffic, low posted speed-limit areas....AND take 'em away for those times of day when you actually could test the limits of the things.....they're a simple lightweight trailer the PD just parks & unhooks....often there's an occifer around, too - maybe they're paranoid some autocross crew will run off with the thing!!!
(I like the way Jarrod Li thinks!!...teehee!) [This message has been edited by suber (edited May 26, 2000).] |
