Question Backfire noise when shifting

My car has a noise like a quiet backfire but it sounds like it mite be coming from the cat. It only dose this when shifting and I think it dose it when it is cold. I also have a weapon R intake, I thought this might have something to do with it

Cool

Completely normal. On engine decel the extra fuel gets shot out the exhaust and hit the cat. Pop. I like the sound personally.

I usually get them in a quick spurt, so it sounds like one. I personally like it.

Yes, something is wrong. This is not normal. This is a run-rich condition that causes unburned fuel to ignite in the exhuast system. Not good.
I also have a 2000 RS with a Weapon-R intake. I don't have this problem. Although the engine will run a little rich, it shouldn't backfire. Have you reset the ECU?
