What's RallyCross?
It's racing on dirt, gravel, grass, and sometimes mud on a course defined by cones. Each run you make counts towards the final results, and the conditions often change throughout the day, challenging drivers to be fast but also stay consistent.

Is this like Stage Rally or X-Games?
Kind of- but without the high risk of danger and damage. This is rally but for street cars too. RallyCross courses are designed to avoid hitting trees, flipping your car, or crashing into a ditch. There are no gap jumps, stream crossings, or cliff-sides.

Can I do this with my car?
YES. Pretty much any car at or near stock height can do it, as long as you don't mind getting it dirty.

Will my car be damaged?
Not if you drive within your's and your car's limits. Your suspension will get a workout, and your car will get dirty.

Does my car need to be modded or "set up" for rallycross?
No. Any car can run, and any car can win. You just need to hone your driving abilities. You will need a helmet. You don't need a roll cage, race seat, fire suit, or other expensive safety device. They loan helmets too.

Where is the racing?
The Washington DC Region of SCCA currently holds all of their RallyCross events in Frostburg, MD.

Will there be scantily-clad car girls who will let me take pictures of them leaning against my car?
Not unless you bring them!

How do I find out more?
Feel free to come to one of our events to specate. Most drivers are happy to give ride-alongs too. Rallycross events are laid-back where everyone is friendly and eager to chat about the sport.

OK folks we're finally able to release the information about the first new venue DC RallyCross has had in many, many years! We're still on the hunt for other locations, and following up previous leads, so please keep the suggestions coming. As we all suspected it was certainly no easy feat finding something that would be even remotely close to how good Summit was but we're pretty optimistic about this one.

Located just South of Frostburg, Maryland we've found an area that was once home to thousands of FEMA trailers. Several years ago the government decided it would spend several million dollars in infrastructure to create a gravel parking area approximately 45 acres in size. Now the trailers are gone and the fun begins! This size area could fit all 3 of the courses we had at Summit. No doubt we'll be limited by the number of course workers available. The surface is predominantly small-size gravel that has sort of "vegetated" over the past couple years. It should make for a fast surface, unique to SCCA RallyCross, and more akin to stage rally.

It is indeed further for the majority of our competitors. Please know it certainly was not easy to make this decision, but the opportunity was too good to pass up. The property is secluded but also very close to the amenities found in the town of Frostburg which has a lot more to offer nearby than Summit did. Camping the night prior to our events will indeed be allowed.

Access to the property is through a gated entrance off New Georges Creek Road, the first left after the Park-and-Ride just South of I-68 (exit 34). This property does not have a street address so you'll have to use these GPS coordinates to look it up on Google Maps: 39.627000, -78.906000.

I'm sure we're leaving out some information and expect a slew of questions so please feel free to contact us as we lead up to our first event. Don't forget- Driver's School March 15th and Points Event March 16th. We're looking forward to a new chapter for DC RallyCross!

See ya all in a couple weeks, looking forward to the new location.

Six-7 restaurants, collection of fast food, 6-9 hotels, home to Frostburg State U. Metropolis of Cumberland close by. Should be cooler in summer - elevation 2000 feet.

Encourage drive up SA, makes SU race day tolerable. We camp out, hang out by the fire. Fun times.

This sounds cool! I've always wanted to try rallyx, but i'm new to my 02 wrx, and it has 135k miles on it so i'm a bit concerned about my car being too tired for this...

My RS has 350k. I plan to rallycross it for fun. This will not be any more abusive than my daily commute. The car gets airborne almost every day.

A local to Frostburg nasioc'er (KONKILR, likes autocross!!!) says he recommends Henny's bar/restaurant in Lavale. It is nearby the RX and has a hotel attached to it. They have always been accommodating to us autocrossers.

And 11mikey11 recommends:

Thought I would give a list of my favorite places to eat. These are in the town of Frostburg, almost every place is on Main Street (US 40). As you know Frostburg is a college town, there are plenty of pizza places to choose from but I would recommend Fat Boys pizza shack.

Places to Eat in Frostburg
Sand Springs Saloon (easily my favorite)
Wild Things Restaurant and Bar
Zen Shi Sushi
El Canelo Mexican
Giuseppe's Italian (located on Bowery St. behind El Canelo)

yep: he recommends Henny's bar/restaurant in Lavale. It is nearby the RX and has a hotel attached to it. And there's chain hotels at interstate exits. Or camp out with us...campfire...beer...cigars.

The slumberland is also near hennys and is cheap. Ask for the Moran autocrossers discount.
