Default Red overlays with the tinted centers, cop issues?

Are you guys getting issues for these? I've seen a car with them around town I think they'd look pretty good on y car I was gonna get the clear centers but I'm just not trying to get pulled over once a month. Any issues for you guys?

probably should be fine, since the smoke would only be reducing the already bright reverse/turn lights.

Nah, Massachusetts. Although I don't know cops in your area, I do know as long as light shines through it legal.

I had tinted taillights on my 08 wrx (smoked, blacked out, whatever), I never got hassled by the cops once.

I'm in Northern Az, and ing originally from Cali but registered here in Flagstaff. I drive home for holidays so I'm somewhat worried about that, but it's just the reverse signal so...

I checked with a cop. BradX978 is right. You have nothing to worry about. FWIW, I saw a silver 08+ hatch with the overlay you described and it looked sweet. I have tinted tail overlays waiting to be applied so I was interested in the response to this thread too.

Thank you although I have been told it was the reason they pulled me over but it's rare and I never get a ticket. Also, if you're going to tint them, I suggest VHT nite shades over vinyl or other alternatives. It stands up well with the heat, and other conditions better then others from what I've heard.

Well, back to the New England board. Later!

I have tinted them with Nightshades in the past and been pulled over and asked to remove them, but I had also just kinda evaded the cop and prevented myself from getting a moving violation (parked and got out of the car before his lights came on)

The overlays look like a solid option to me, I like the red and have red supertones so I think it will be an excellent contrast, then throwing a lip on and doing something with the god awful blue Subaru emblem hahaha (it's not horrible but it sure as hell doesn't match)

There is a distance that your rear lights have to be visible to. I think it's like 500 feet. As long as you don't go so dark that you can hardly see the light you should be fine.

You are correct partially. That varies state to state, in mass an I believe AZ according to Kelly as long as the light is showing through you're good. Especially with red there's no chance word it not showing through, it just enhances the red.

Well according to ARS 28-925 what I said is true. Also look at 922 and 923.

I also read somewhere that as long as you don't muck with your hatch light (the red brake light at the top of the hatch) you are ok since its visible.

With that said, if you look like you are up to shenanigans Im sure a cop won't hesitate to use yours (or his) ignorance of the tail light tinting to pull you over. So if you are up to no good, use someone else's car.

I had tinted taillights for a while, never had any problem with LEOs but a word of warning...

I was rear-ended in that car in broad daylight, at a stoplight, by a lady in a big truck with a yappy dog in her lap (I.E. my tail lights had nothing to do with it). A cop saw it and without hesitation issued her the citation. When I submitted the insurance claim, they said my taillights were a factor and only offered me 60% of the cost to fix. Now eventually i argued with them enough and got the whole 100%, but it took a straight forward case and made it drag into a 6 month battle with the insurance company. It took several visits from the insurance adjuster, including him measuring out 500 ft behind my car and taking photos to ensure he could see the tail lights light up.

so in summary, I still think its a good look, when they aren't tinted too dark (think dark red, not impossible-to-see-at-night black) but it wasn't worth fighting the insurance company 6 months for. Its just asking for trouble.

I've never had a problem. The tinted part is separate from the red parts, so if needed you could actually just remove the tinted portion and have red and white tails in no time.
