Seriously? All the years of Kobe running the triangle and you havent seen him move without the ball? Come on man.

Yes, Nash and Kobe are both playmakers but of very a different variety and serve the offense in very different roles. There is plenty of room in an offsense with two different types of playmakers, which is why I dont see them having the same problems as the Heat did in their first year. Smart / saavy veterans adapt and play well together, the Lakers will be much more like the first year "Big 3" Celtics than the first year "Big 3" Heat.

Another smart move by a well run organization. Good to see a small market team who is well run and can still compete with the bigger markets arms race that is going on.

Pretty much. The Celtics Big 3 won a title in year 1 for a reason. They were well past the "OMG stats!" portion of their careers. That and each played a specific role. Pierce ran iso offense. Ray ran off screens and shot 3's. Kevin posted up and could hit a 20 footer. The Heat picked up 3 guys that essentially did the same thing offensively for the first year.

The Lakers free agent mash up looks great to me. Even defensively Nash isn't a liability when you have Dwight eclipsing the rim.

Anyone watching Hall of Fame induction? Freakin Chet Walker. Funny guy. Said he and others went to court in the 60's and won what would lead to the start of free agency. Then said it allowed players to take their talents to Cleveland. LeBron is there too.

Then another time he spoke of his team and then asked Billy Cunningham to speak some words about him because he can't promote himself.

Magic had another great small spot tonight on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. Over the years seeing what he has accomplished and how many lives he has touched has been great. Completely transparent in this small snippet tonight and moving in the HBO documentary with him and Larry. He'll be one of those few sports figures that will actually affect my day when he passes. From HIV complications or a bus hitting him.

It's just that smile. As always it's there for 90% of his on camera time. It's infectious.

Is the $120 for the 5 team, broadband only (don't even have cable) League pass deal worth it? The five team restriction isn't too painful since there are only a few I enjoy watching anyway but it still seems like a lot when I'm usually content with watching poor quality streams (no HDTV either).

I'd say if you have internet, save the $120 and use firstrowsports.

I'm not too confident that the Thunder will extend Harden by the end of October (which I believe is the deadline). If they don't, some team will give him a max deal, or close enough to it, that the Thunder won't be able to match .

The NBA is set to take action against floppers with league spokesman Tim Frank reiterating what David Stern had hinted at in June: This upcoming season flops caught on video will be punished with fines from the league office some time in the following days.

This is, I guess, a welcome attempt to try to stem the tide of flopping. But much better changes would have been easy.

I'm left wondering: Why so slow? A flop takes less than a second. You can watch from every available angle in about a minute. Whoever this person is in New York who is going to hand out the fines ... do they really need 15 hours to review the candidate plays?

I'm not suggesting referees stop play to review every collision. I'm asking: If we're already going to trust a nameless, faceless person to watch, call and fine flops from the league office, something which makes some sense to me, why does that person need so darned long to make the call? Many flops are clear to everyone watching at home within seconds. How can it be that millions at home know what should be called, while the league needs another day to figure it out?

My radical HoopIdea: Use the best possible information as quickly as possible. At the very least announce, a few minutes after the flop: "The league has fined Chris Paul $1,000 for a flop at the end of the first quarter."

It's not a perfect solution, but it's better than announcing it the next day. It at least brings the best available information into the real time of the game, which keeps the league from looking clueless to fans with instant replay.

It also makes things a little embarrassing for the player, which could have an effect.

My other radical HoopIdea: Whoever makes the calls should have at least as much information, in real time, as the average fan. Who doesn't want to get the calls right? ...

I don't think they should fine the players at all. Unless it's a hefty fine like $25K. $1K isn't going to hurt any of these players pocket books. I'm sure someone would take a $1K fine if it was able to make their team win in the final seconds.

What I think they should do is give them a foul. Then it limits their playing time if they do it too much. It's gotton out of control they past few years.

Agreed. Something that could alter the outcome of the game is much more incentive to not flop.

Way too simple/plain. But I'm sure some graphic designer would say the "clean look" has some hidden meaning or whatever. Being a nets fan since the early 90's, I've had to endure so many horrendous logo and jersey changes that I thought they would hit this one out of park.

This is what I've thought for a while. Slap em with a technical foul or regular foul.

I don't really mind them. It seems a bit lazy though, to go the "dark/tough" theme. Kind of like the Heat black and white alternates.

I like vibrant colors when put together simply and tastefully.

Perhaps instead of fining players how about the refs stop calling fouls every time a player falls down. The only exception possibly being during a charge. Any other time, it's definitely more often horse crap and the player wasn't' touched much, definitely not touched enough to fall down.

I'd be happier seeing the no calls being made, that way it puts the guy falling at a disadvantage for that possession and hopefully it would make them to stop doing it.

I just think at this level, with the size of the players, it should be blatantly obvious to an average person what would it take to knock one of these guys down.

Hell, playing pickup ball at the gym we never see anything like this crap. When a guy falls, he was hit pretty good. When I mean hit, I mean 'part of the game' hit.

Rasheed Wallace is coming out of retirement to sign with the Knicks. Camby, Kidd, Kurt Thomas and Wallace all on the same team.

I like the Heat's black/white alternates a lot. I'm mad that I couldn't find one when I was home for my birthday. I also loved the Floridians jerseys too though.

These Nets jerseys though just look plain lazy.

That's what I've been doing for a while but it seems to be getting worse rather than better (with technology, etc.)

The league has released it's plan for the flopping.

http://www.nba.com/2012/news/10/03/a...s=iref:nbahpt2

Quote:
NBA announces new anti-flopping rule

Official Release
Posted Oct 3, 2012 1:25 PM

New York -- The NBA will adopt an anti-flopping rule beginning with the 2012-13 season, Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Stu Jackson announced Wednesday.

"Flops have no place in our game -- they either fool referees into calling undeserved fouls or fool fans into thinking the referees missed a foul call," Jackson said. "Accordingly, both the Board of Governors and the Competition Committee felt strongly that any player who the league determines, following video review, to have committed a flop should -- after a warning -- be given an automatic penalty."

"Flopping" will be defined as any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player. The primary factor in determining whether a player committed a flop is whether his physical reaction to contact with another player is inconsistent with what would reasonably be expected given the force or direction of the contact.

Physical acts that constitute legitimate basketball plays (such as moving to a spot in order to draw an offensive foul) and minor physical reactions to contact will not be treated as flops.

Any player who is determined to have committed a flop during the regular season will be subject to the following:

Violation 1: Warning

Violation 2: $5,000 fine

Violation 3: $10,000 fine

Violation 4: $15,000 fine

Violation 5: $30,000 fine

If a player violates the anti-flopping rule six times or more, he will be subject to discipline that is reasonable under the circumstances, including an increased fine and/or suspension.

The league will announce at a later date a separate set of penalties for flopping that will apply during the playoffs.

So now flopping will be a team strategy. Save the flops for crucial moments, especially the playoffs.

Should be higher fines and no warning. Start at $25k at least and double from there.

Looks like training camp is starting soon.

My Knicks just signed Rasheed Wallace They now have at least 4 players over the age of 37. I don't even have the words. The guy hasn't played in 18 months.
