I got my vf48 tuned a little while back at Cobb Tuning Plano, I love the new found power!

Yeah that sounds like my car, gold rpf1s. I don't have any data logs saved at the moment and to be honest, I don't know what kind of timing I'm running. If I get a chance this weekend I'll look into it. I need to replace my front O2 sensor and hunt for a little vacuum leak as well

- VF48 - STI TMIC / Y pipe / Air Splitter - Perrin Turbo Inlet - Grimmspeed 3 port EBCS - SPT Intake - COBB 3" TBE (catted) 17.5psi - 280whp/315ft-lb TQ @5200ft above sea level My tuner made me an additional 19psi tune which put down 308whp/327ft-lb TQ IIRC. I need honest opinions......I have an 02 WRX Wagon with 108k on the odo, and I have a friend selling the VF48, injectors, TMIC and fuel pump from his 2011 STi. They had around 4k miles on them when he took them off, and he'd probably give me a killer deal if I wanted them.
Just wondering if you'd think it'd be safe, and/or worth it to throw those on the old 02 wagon. My first WRX was an 03, and I put the VF39 on it with supporting mods, and it was a blast, but that car had 60k miles when I did that. I want to do this but I'm a little hesitant, this car is my DD and I commute 50 miles a day, so I'm sure it would kill my gas mileage. Anyways, come at me with your opinions. |

If I can remember how to get it posted I will do that next. AMS' shop is nothing shy of spectacular. I pulled in from StL and counted 7 GT-R's 2 full rally race prepped Evo's, a couple of street Evo's and a few road race Porsche 997 911's. Needless to say I felt a little under gunned pulling in with my all but stock lil' 07 WRX, but they treated me with the utmost respect and acted as if my car was just as important as the guy getting the $63,999 Alpha10 GT-R pkg. Really nice folks. My only regret is that I didn't ask for the tour, they said I could be there for the dyno session but I missed the morning train from the city to get back out to W Chicago (my bad and my bummer). They even saved me some $ from the original estimate AFTER they found more work that had to be concluded before she was dyno worthy AND they threw in an AMS beanie on top of all that. Can't beat that with a stick. I definitely love the new found power, I'm not beating on the car (I have never driven like that) but I want to make sure all is tight and good before I give her the full beans. There is still a little more lag than I would have thought would be there and I will be in discussion with them as to how to get rid of this as my intentions were to build around throttle response not top end or dyno numbers. All in all AMS is an A#1 shop that I would recommend to anyone. A little on the pricey side but you know- and this is why I stayed with them after the estimate- you get what you pay for. I knew they could handle any and every little thing that might come up, which did and they did. The only used part I had was the STi TMIC and they found a tiny hole in the Y pipe that the previous owner was using to inject (prolly meth, I dunno)and welded it shut pronto, another shop probably wouldn't have even found that and just tried to tune around it. Bravo AMS, bravo. With all the in house engineering and fab work, not to mention the absolute piles of trophies including anything from the SCCA runoffs to Time Attack, I had no doubts my girl was in good hands. And this was before I read anything about Chris Black's reputation as a tuner, I just found his praise on the Injector Dynamics certified BadAss list this evening, after all was said and done. Lucky me! All around great experience, knocking on wood that it stays that way. Like I said I don't beat on cars but I do push it frequently. I'm guessing my next money will be in Tranny work but I need Suspension and wheels and tires next, so the 5 speed has to hang on for awhile yet. The first thing I did was the brakes, SS lines, hawk pads, quality slotted rotors (in front anyway) EBC I think, and that German Blue brake fluid. Figured a car has to be able to stop well enough first before throwing power mods at it. Now it needs to handle as well as it goes, debating coil overs VS Eibach Pro-kit (and sways) witsome quality dampers (preferably adjustable). Then wheels and tires and after all that if I'm not broke Maybe MAYBE I'll get some of the dings taken off her... |

All that being said, I am woefully under knowledgeable about the differences in dynos and how they read. Mustang dynos read low? Thats the feeling I'm getting from reading old post after old post. I am just curious what this might read on a more accurate dyno? 300 AWHP maybe? 350 ft-lbs torque? I dunno, anyone with the knowledge please chime in, love to get a more accurate number and a real world figure. Thanks to anyone that might help with that. |

^^I'm assuming this tune was on 91-93 octane? Since you have 1000's, are you getting retuned on E85?
Re: your question about dynos, take it to the track to get a better idea. If you trap 108-109 as it sits on pump gas, then you have a strong VF setup. 110+ is exceptional on pump with a VF. If you were on E85, then 110-112 would be expected and you could run a high 11. |

Yes 93 octane. I was thinking about going to e85 in the future, when I did more research because it looks like there are significant gains to be had. Been reading about the stock 5 speeds though, not liking what I'm seeing but again I don't rape the go pedal, so I'm hoping it will last awhile still. I JUST NEED MORE THROTTLE RESPONSE, like my original 05 STi. Wheres the hold up to that in my system here? I've researched the hell out of this and thought I bought all the right parts, it just still has that split second hesitation my 05 did not have. I want that instant GO back.
But all in all , I thought these were great numbers, the daily driving of it hasn't changed one bit, well. its a little louder, but with that perfect SPT boxer rumble I'm OK with that, it's not a droner like a Honda with a fartcan. I have an 02 wrx 2.0L and just bought a vf48. I'm trying to decide what to do for a tune. It looks like a Cobb access port runs $600 new and a Cobb Pro-tune is $400 so I'd be looking at $1000 to do it right. That seems like a lot to pay especially considering the $400 for a tune is only going to last me until I decide to mod further. My friend has a Tactrix cable that I can borrow and he knows someone he claims can tune the car for me. Does anyone here have experience with street tuning through a Tactrix and if so what words of wisdom do you have about going this route vs getting a dyno tune? I was also wondering if anyone has a similar set-up to me and wouldn't mind sending me their map so I have something to start off with. My mod's are as follows:
stock 2.0L block vf48 05 STI TMIC with y-pipe 07 STI injectors (I believe they are 565cc, same as pinks) SPT Intake STI catless uppipe 3" catless TBE Grimmspeed 3 port ECBS Walbro 255lph FP From reading this thread it sounds like I maybe should have gone with DW 650cc injectors. Somebody mentioned the 06 wrx injectors (560cc?) will be running at 97% IDC with this turbo. I plan on getting a wideband O2 sensor so I can monitor my AFR that way if I do toast the injectors I can shut it down before I run lean and kill the turbo. Any feedback on Tactrix cable tuning would be appreciated, and as I mentioned before if someone has a map I can base my tune off of I'd appreciate that as well Thanks |
