Just ordered one of those aluminum skid plates...
I just ordered one of these, as my original plastic plate has long been torn off. Thanks go out to Murray for pointing me in the right direction. I wonder how long it'll take to get here?

Odd looking, though the oil filter hole is a nice option. Saves the extra step of taking it on and off. My skidplate serves more as a 'how leaky is the valve cover' then for protection from rocks. heh.

i must admit i've been concidering getting one for my moms Forester........figure all it has to do is save the engine once and it's paid for itself.

they're a pain to remove/reinstall...
all the bolts are a different thread pitch, certian length's for each location, etc.. finger them in by hand before cranking down on em.. i thought i had it all good, turns out i had 3 from teh front in the rear and then it almost got all mixed up. |

I love that lower picture you provided, Murray. It fosters the sense of invincibility I so desire...

Yup, we sell the RallyArmor skid plates. We stock them at the shop or you can order online and have it shipped to you. Great plates and all the bolts are the same size for them.

how convenient this is... i'd vote for this then over the SSI one...just to prevent confusion. i should re-tap all my holes to the same pitch... but ehh.. its on, so its staying on. i took the underneath pic when i changed my oil last time, its not hard with the "narrow" hole they provide. it doesnt show the large scrape that i got on it when i went to STPR a while back... i'm due for another oil change soon, maybe i'll get a pic of hte battle-scar. these are definatly worth it.. i plan on getting a rear plate as well, either OEM or aftermarket. i thought about hte 06 STI rear diffuser, but i dont think it will look ok on a Wagon.. and i doubt it fits with the rear diff. protector. the one i have works on both forester and 02/03 Impreza..they just provide different spacers for the Forester. the other goofy lookin one on the first post i think is a later model Legacy plate. |

If you get the rear plate I'd go with the OEM. They are pretty cheap compared to what everyone else is selling and not really that much diff between any of em. Plus, the rear one is a real pain in the ass to install, so once its on, its on and the OEM is a sure fit.

I never saw the use for one unless you are offroading. For those with a stock oil temp guage forget it, you will never get at your 27mm bolt through that thing.

It came on Friday and I wrenched it on Saturday. The first place I hit was that huge gravel parking lot near my hovel. I also replaced the brake fluid, which made more of a difference than I thought it would. Additionally, I got my studded snow tires mounted onto the stock rims Saturday. They are ready whenever the weather is... I need some new 17 inch tires, now. I am loving it!!!

Hankook... 404? I'll have to look at them again. Actually, sitting here looking at the picture I posted, I can tell those are not them. The ones I got are definitely directional... hmm... different tread pattern.
