Default My new sub boxes are almost done.

I have a couple 12" Kicker solo-barics sitting in my shop. So I figured I'd build some boxes and put them to good use. Boxes are not quite done yet but here's a preview..Will post more pics of completed boxes

Amp racks to come also.
These are done, installed, and you can find more pics here...

With the finish prep it looks like your going the painted route...correct? These go behind the seats then?

Any build progress pics?

Thanks !

When I take out the seats to run all the wiring, I'm gonna bolt them to the supports that run vertically behind the rear seat.

Yes, going Silver like the car. My Kenwood amps are already silver. Those are going on racks, behind acrylic windows on each side of the trunk.

as for pics, stupid me hasn't taken many. have one of some fresh glass on one of the boxes. I need to take some of the finished boxes. 3 coats of silver wet sanded, followed by 2 cans of clear per box. They are sooo glossy

This is the frame I made for one of the amps. It will have an acrylic window and be wrapped in a fiberglass panel molded to the side of the trunk.

this is the molding of the trunk liner with a section cut out for the amp rack

Weigh them because since they are sealed depending on your cutoff frequency you could have resonance problems. The problem probably wouldn't be from the sub vibrating the enclosure it would be from the sub vibrating the enclosure and then the enclosure vibrating other things. Your enclosures become a "speaker" all on their Own. The problem is you might not like the frequency that they play.

I agree they look nice...are u going to paint, carpet or vinyl?

They are painted to match the car. larger pics on MySubie.com same screen name as on here. As far as vibration, I have seam sealed everything in my trunk, took out the rear seat and rhino lined everything from under there to the trunk lid. Also used dynamat inside the trunk lid on the outer skin. Had to cut it into narrow strips to fit through the holes. Then pieced it all back together one by one like lining up wall paper. lol I want to re-make the rear deck and add some bass ports from the trunk. I was thinking of making a mini replica of the hood scoop with the ports underneath it.

Also forgot to mention that I have an MTX adjustable electronic crossover. Hopefully I can adjust out anything that I don't like.

You don't live terribly far from me if you ever want to come down and we can RTA the car. I live in Pepperell which is 2 hours if you drive the speed limit. I also have a 04 however it's currently in pieces.

The resonance problems***8230;you might not have them at all. But it has nothing to do with your sub or crossover, it has to do with sealed fiberglass which likes to resonate depending on it's size at various frequencies. Your car deadening, trunk, rhino lining have nothing to do with it. If you do have the problems, they are very easy to fix. But putting your car on an RTA an analyzing what frequency problems you are having is very helpful as unless you have very good ears which comes from years of training and critical listening you probably won't notice them. But once they are gone (unless your hearing is not so good) People usually say***8230;"hey***8230;that sounds way better"

Amazing what not having 22 5db dips and humps can do.

No you should stop by anyway. I'll show you a few things with the RTA and now that you have some processing ability we can adjust accordingly. I guarantee it would be worth it for you, you would learn a lot and we'd have a good time while we are at it. The boxes came out nice.

I also have some of the best head monitors ever made so you can listen to some music and hear what it is supposed to sound like then you will have a reference point to try to get your car too. If you're an audio guy you'll enjoy it. Once you hear what music is supposed to sound like, in proper balance…it's just a holy %$@ moment. Very few people get to experience it even if you visit a high end home audio shop, till you reach the $100k level it's hard to get there. Only two speakers I've ever heard have done it, the flagship B&W's and the full ensemble of Avante Garde with the bass horns

http://www.avantgarde-acoustic.com/trio-product-en.html

Now keep in mind I despise horns. I hate them with a passion. Those avant Garde's I had goose bumps for 3 days. Totally changed my opinion, horns can be amazing if they are done right. Those are just the only ones I've heard that are done right.
