This may be one of the worst designed websites I have seen. I was signing up, and exceeded the salary cap but it wouldn't let mne go back to the screen where I exceeded the cap. I could move backwards through the signup process and uncheck things, but the cap wouldn't adjust accordingly.

Now it won't let me change anything? Are you stuck with your initial selections or what?

Apparently I am as dumb as Bud

Aaron

If I remember, you hit back and change the choices, than if you hit the submit button or whatever it was at the bottom, you go through and do it all again.

(Sorry that's not very clear) It took me about 5 or 6 tries to get a team together.

Yep! Weeded me right out.

That's a standard design attitude. When ever you design something (a new widget, a new compter, or a new piece of software - ESPECIALY a new piece of software), if the user can't figure what the hell you were thinking then he must be stupid. That attitude reigns supreme unless an item eventually becomes successful. Then, the design goes through enough iterations that it becomes much more refined (err... fool-proof?).

Now the designs that become successful quickly are usually well thought out and simplified as much as possible (but no more) in advance. So tell me... who's the stupid one, the user or the designer?

(Better yet, don't encourage me or you'll really get me started.)

Have you ever noticed how much thought Bud puts into everything?

I think he has too much time on his hands.<IMG SRC="http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/owen/scatter.gif" border=0>

I've thought a lot about product design. I'm an engineer, it's what I do for a living.

Too much time... LOL!

I had troubles with it also when I first signed up, had to keep going back and rechecking things, then submit, and had to keep an eye on how much money I had on each chose screen.

Another thing to try is to contact the guy who is running it and tell him your having problems and see if he can help.

Bud, What flavor of engineer are you? I consider myself embedded software, but most of the time I write training for PICMicro 8-bit chips.

Thumbs up

I'm a software engineer (Computer Systems Engineering - CSE, by degree). What I do borders on embedded systems. I mainly do device drivers, boot-loader/BIOS replacement code, and OS extensions/middleware.

I work on a core team doing reference designs and development systems for in-car computing devices that (depending on the incarnation) are a mixture of a car stereo, navigation system, PDA, and cell phone. They use 32-bit protected mode processors with a variety peripherials with various degrees of chip-level integration. It's a pretty cool job, but I'm the junior guy on a very small and very experienced team (which kinda' makes my life difficult some times). All-in-all, it's exactly what I went to school for.
