Replacing windshield wipers
What should I stay away from? I was looking towards the Bosch. Thanks.

Well, Bosch are good blades at reasonable price. Most folks look at replacing wipers as Winter is arriving. Choosing to do it now just "bakes" the blades through the Summer, when you need them least. Remember we're talking about a rubber product that breaks down with extended exposure to sunlight and heat. I'd suggest waiting til maybe October?

From my experience Bosch is a good choice, the best of the common mass market store blades.
Anco have been horrible for me, you will do yourself well to stay away from them. My favorite brand to date is Trico Teflon blades, simply amazing. Streak free and super quiet, no skipping at all. The cleanest wipe I've experienced. |

Wiper Blades
If you're a wiper blade freak, then buy the PIAA silicon blades for $20 a piece. I like the TripleEdge blades from Wal-Mart for like $6-7 a piece. I just put them on 3 of my family members cars this weekend. They are supposed to have a Limited Lifetime Warranty also. Not sure what "Limited" means in this scenario, maybe they are pro-rated. My GF has had a set on her car for the last 3 years of harsh Virginia weather and they are still working great.
P.S. has anyone experience wiper hopping after using Rain-X? It seems to me that the "wax" on the windshield is wicking all the water off, thus, there isn't anything to lubricate the wiper blade. This causes friction and results in hopping. I've since quit using Rain-X and the blades are quiet and streak free. -Charles- |

I just keep the stock frames & buy the generic refills...
On my WRX I belive it is something like "B" & "D" numbers at Wal-Mart... for like $4 per pack you get the equivelent of 2 whole sets of blades & they actually work really well... I also use Rain-X so if my wipers aren't perfect I can still see realy well. |

We have the opposite opinions on this one.
The Bosch blades I bought didn't freakin last 2 months and one car wash. I got major streaks after that carwash with the Bosch blades. I bought refills from Autozone, it might be an Anco, and they work fine and have lasted much longer than the stupid Bosch blades. And they cost like half than what the Bosch blades did. Well, that's my experience. Quote:

Good blades from a Euro parts mfr. Valeo are sold at Target. They added a gimmick color-changing "time to replace" sticker and branded them "SmartBlade", but the wipers are well made and work good. They look much like VW blades. Same cost as Bosch.

I got the piaa ones and they work sweet. I paid 11 for the short one and 15 for the long one. The carbon fiber look is nice.

I've found the same thing as RSarte. The Bosch blades are great while they last, but they don't seem to last long. I also live in place where it rains pretty much 11.5 months of the year, so having to replace them every three or four months may not be so bad.

Haha...everyone is correct, I should have mentioned durability Bosch does indeed have a short life span. But a half-worn Bosch blade wipes better than a new Anco blade. Anco gives a half-assed wipe for a long time if you don't mind the streaky view.
People have said good things about the PIAA silicon blades but once I tried the Trico Teflons I found no reason to try anything else. Keep in mind it'll take two sets of these to get through an average mid-atlantic year. Maybe I'll try the PIAA next time to compare. |

I've used Bosch, TripleEdge, and Rain-X blades.
The Bosch blades sucked, they only lasted about 3-4 months (but they were great at in the begining). The Rain-X blades were OK, they lasted for about a year The TripleEdge blades are the best that I've used. I've had them over a year and they as good as day one. The lifetime warranty is for the blades, they claim that they won't deteoriate (the blades are made of silicone, not rubber). The triple-edge wipe is great, (they only skip when I use Rain-X and the rain too light). Greg SQC# 019 |

I have tried bunch of different ones and I found that Anco work the best. By best I mean they do what they are supposed to without streks and they are cheap. For sure last longer than Bosch and do about the same quality job.
