Cabin Air Filter on 2011 WRX
I used to change my cabin air filter in my 2007 WRX and now that I have a 2011, I purchased my replacement filter but before I attempted this I just thought I'd ask anyone who might have done this if there's any major differences in the job in the new cars or if its basically the same as with the older models.

Pretty sure that the process is detailed in your owner's manual. It's different from older Subarus in that you don't have to remove screws anymore.

It's a cake job and a detailed description is in the owners manual like another poster said. I saw a dealer charging 100 bucks for a cabin air filter service....you got to be kidding!

Time costs money, so do chemicals and filters...
Would I ever pay someone that kind of money for the service? No, but not everyone wants to get their hands dirty. And to the person who says they don't get dirty, tell that to the owner of this one: Yes, those little things are all rat poop. Or tell the old couple whose cabin filter I recommended replacing (which they declined) and then three days later I replaced it after they both went to the doctor with upper respiratory infections... |

^ For those that have never checked their cabin air filter or don't know if they have one installed, now is the time to check it.

Nice picture Cosmo. What exactly are the chemicals the dealer use? Is it just for cleansing purposes of the HVAC system in the car?

I don't know the chemical composition, but I know there's a fair bit of ammonia in it.
There's a foam that gets injected into the A/C drain hose that fills the evaporator case up, theoretically killing mold and helping to drain out dust and other odor causing particles, and then there's an aerosol spray that goes in the cowl fresh air intake to freshen that up, and it also gets sprayed into the fan through the filter opening and blown out through the various vents. |
