im probably going to sell my 215/70/16 grabbers and get 235/70/16 bfg rugged terrains. the grabbers are great offroad but i never do that anymore and for my ginormous subie they're way way too skinny.

Just picked up a 1996 Outback last night that is going to be used for snowboarding and surfing. I want to give the car a bit of a lift just so I get some extra ground clearance and avoid getting stuck in any deep sand or snow. What is the best way to go about this? Ive read that Forester springs and struts are good, but what are the specific years that can be interchanged, and offer the greatest amount of lift? Also, if i were to install the suspension bits from a forester, is there anything that i should be worried about like the CV axles?

The guys at mwr axles in colorado would probably be able to give and idea of the size differences in the 2 cvs.

SG forester struts (03-08) will lift a gen 1 OB (96099). The best bang-for-buck is 06 forester turbe automatic struts&springs. Some claim you may want a 1/4" or .5" strut top spacer (look for them on subtle solutions for example) to level the rear up a scosh. An outback has all the driveline lowering bits already to compensate for it's raised strut geometry, and this forester strut set-up will lift your outback about 1-1.5 inches which is within the "threshold" above stock geomoetry whereby you shouldn't need to further drop the drive line.

So in short, slap some 06 FXT strut assemblies on there and get carving!!
