so, is it expected to have project car writes up in a certain form? or does every subsystem need its own thread?

j/k

The format we're working on right now is as follows:

Having a single sticky thread for each project car that will server as an index for all the related individual projects on that car as threads.

The individual projects on that car will be posted as separate threads. We want to make finding the right discussion and having it be on topic as easy as possible. So we don't want a single muddled project car thread that encompasses every aspect of the build.

I'm most likley going to move the individual threads into a sub forum in here, so the only threads you'll see in here are the index threads that highlight each project. It will be a single extra click to get to the individual build portion information, but it will help keep this a lot more organized as we get more cars in here.

Again we're working out the formatting bugs... which is why we aren't opening up the flood gates yet.

sounds like an excellent method for doing it as my build thread did the same as the rest...turned into a million sub-discussions

Excellent!

But what if I don't have uber organized build documentation? (We're not all Homemade WRX here j/k!) Will I be able to post the photos and then as people ask questions about certain systems break it down from there? That will require me to be a mod, which is not a bad idea considering my excellent good looks.

This is sort of an ongoing debate as to how to layout the threads. I'm pulling for divided discussion like you see here since I really believe it has the most benefit when searching for particular info. The jumbled approach, which I've been guilty of myself it hard to keep track of. Especially when you have too many discussions going on at once. What's your take on it, since you've been through the jumbo thread before?

The project will need to be uber organized to be eligible to be in here. Otherwise it's not really a project, but more a collection of parts you've installed. We are looking for a certain deep level of commitment on modifying the car and having a plan and sticking to it. So we want documentation, pictures, and impressions. If that stuff isn't really there, then the members gallery is more likely your place to post.

I really do like the idea of having the main build thread split off like a tree into sub-threads on key points/topics of the project. Parts of my build went off into pistons, a lot in to heads and porting, some into sleeving...it is all over the place. I haven't even started the discussion or pics on my oil system or turbo componenets yet...and manifolds will certainly spark up conversation too...maybe I'll just put my thread on hold for now.

time to bust out pics, graphs and lots of uber nerdy enigneering numbers

no offense, but i dont think this is a very practical forum.

i though this was a forum for actual members to show progress on thier personal build's and share information. from what ive noticed in my time as a member here on nasioc. there is a major lack of information on nasioc, compared to the info that members actually have.

in my opinion, nasioc would be a better community if members could share what information members have vs. what information aftermarket part distrubitiors, and fabricators have.

who actually builds car's like this?..people who make, and sell parts with no limit to funds.

what about the people who have a budget, buy those parts, and do everything themselve's on nasioc?

thats the info people need, and would make nasioc grow...not how to bolt up all the latest and greatest parts from a certain aftermarket company.

the above is my opinion typed for everyone, i am not attacking anyone.

first of all there are a few of use who have decided to spend what money we have to finding what a subie can do and find the shortfalls within...not many of us privateers.

and the people who are on tight budgets should appreciate the shop threads showing how much time, developement and effort has gone into the design of a given part or subsystem...if you want someone's review on what catted downpipe is best (for example), I don't this would be the section for that.

I see this section as more of eye candy and indepth questioning of design in the developement of a project or part. Then the person can explain why it is or isn't that best for a given case.

Just my $0.02,
Micah

This forum is for actual members to divulge their projects as well, we are just working out the bugs with a vendor, since we can harass them about formatting and layout, as well as thread titles and naming, more so than we can with 10 members.

This will be for regular users, they will need to be approved in order to post in here, but it will be for them to share their builds as well.

I thought I made this process clear a few threads up.

This is in attempt to try to make some of the really good information you do find on NASIOC a bit easier to digest and find. Don't worry guys... I'm not in the habit of doing things that aren't for the good of all NASIOC, whether the result is immediately visible by the community or not.

that makes me feel better...for a second i thought this forum was headed in the wrong direction.

i would like to see members post thier builds and share info for other members(which is what it sounds like nick has planned)...i thought it was a vendor car build thread...thats why i though it was an unrealistic forum.

thanks for clearing things up for me nick

I think this is a great idea. My build thread is starting to get confusing because I can't fit anymore pictures in my first few posts so they are starting to get lost on different pages of the thread. So something like this would keep everything nice and tidy.

Not just the country, but across the world! I'm in New Zealand building a no expense spared 1990 Legacy Wagon 3 litre 6 twin turbo - full body restoration with some pretty menacing details...

Sooner I can start showcasing my progress the better - lets get this show on the road!!

Nick,

Have you figured out the bugs of this new forum? The Perrin projects are great, but I would also like to see what other shops/people are building.

I second this, it would be great to see something besides perrin installing all of the parts they sell.

A quicky. Any chance of a "Member's Journal" set up for the more average user that is organized but is just that a average guy? I know I'm putting alot into my car as others have with theres and some sub groups are starting to build resource threads to support others in their groups. I however thing a nice set up would be like on RS25.com where you lead in with one car as one project as a whole. Letting them log their progress for others to see and them to go back to asking," What did I do last time I redid these settings on this part?" Lots of people start up one for each piece as they go along how bout we each get our own to start and link in our mini-profile
<~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Right there?

I would like to post my project on this thread in hopes to get some feedback on what others might be doing if they had a similar project going on, this is my first big project and I am flying kinda blind right now with not a lot of knowledge of Subaru's, so any advise I can get would be helpful, thanks for the consideration and here are some pics of what I have going on, there towards the bottom http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...81422&page=122
