It isn't, just speculating that it would be good spot. A street course would suck ass, 90 degree corners everywhere? no thanks.

okay good, I couldn't figure out how you got the location that quick

There's plenty of places for a good street course, but obviously not in that location.

There's a good street course on the way to the Salt Lick, but I don't think they'll run the race out there.

Near the airport and close to town.
I'd imagine they'd go for something not in the floodplain, maybe with more elevation change too.

but who knows, I'm sure if the event is only 2 years away that we'll hear about the location selection and construction soon enough.

I bet that Full Throttle Promotions has already purchased the land, you can maybe find out where it's going to be that way

Not that Austin would build something on that scale, but how long did it take Dubai to build their facility?

no way in hell it will be a street course they tried to have a supermoto race downtown a couple years ago and everyone just about wet themselves. it would be rad if it happens but i'm wondering who is going to put up the $ to build this "facility"

I think you misread, it is going to be porpoise built.

as in they are going to bring in dolphins to make the track.

here is an artists rendition of porpii putting the finishing touches on a statue of an early 19th century scuba diver.

obviously, this will be one of the first projects for porpii in the state of Texas, so it will be a landmark occasion for both sea mammals and F1.

It didn't happen because the promoter was in waaaaay over his head and the AMA stopped caring about its dying Supermoto series the year before. It was going to cost way too much to make it happened and nobody wanted to see it through only to lose their ass.

Remember the F1 Grand Prix of Dallas in '84? Street course.

I would absolutely love to see a world class facility, like Miller or Barber x10, but knowing the way things go I'm not going to get excited about it until I get to ride it.

well that guy was an idiot but they moved it to the east side at the last minute and the neighborhood association freaked out. same thing that got rid of the drag boat races on town lake and the car and motorcycle races at auditorium shores in the '70's and '80's. only way this goes down is if some giant multi-million dollar facility gets built.

'Street Course' is very liberal and basically just means that the course is not used as a race track for the other 362 days of the year.

The GPoH 'street course' was a parking lot 362 of the other days in the year.

in the case of the Dallas Gran Prix, it was on the fair park (or the best info I can find says it was held in fair park), which is only really used for the state fair.

Exactly. I just don't know who's paying for it so I'm not going to get my hopes up until it actually gets built, hence my reservations.

Full Throttle Productions has only been doing small scale Nascar stuff at Thunder Hill up until this point. This new track will easily cost over $100 million and considering the lousy turnouts at Indy I'm not sure they could recoup that within the 9 year contract. And then after that...I hope they have a really good business plan or some investor that doesn't care about making a return.
