Default Wow...

Do people live to check email? I check my email once every two days because of my hectic work schedule (I live out of a suitcase and travel 120 days a year fixing stuff on an emergency basis from the Atlantic to the Pacific to 450 miles from the North Pole) and because I look after the needs of 2 women - one's 13, the other's her mother. If I was making money doing this, I'd be more proactive, but selling these at my cost to clean out my shop takes the priority out of checking my email.

I rarely check on wknds, as I have to settle back and unpack, launder, and do the house and family stuff.

If you send me something, be patient. I've not died... I'm probably on a buoy in the middle of the Atlantic, or on an island in the middle of a lake in the middle of the Northwest Territories, or sleeping on a pallet in the back of a Herc on my way to Greenland.....

Default What do I do?

I work for the weather service here in Canada. I design, install and maintain prototype equipment and have to test and evaluate them everywhere - do they work at -40C? do they work in freezing spray in the ocean? do they work in high humidity/temp? do they work in low temp/low humidity? do they work on solar panels? do they work in polar night? do they work being tossed and turned with triaxial torques on a buoy?I have sites on and off the east coast, the west coast, in the Arctic on the islands beside Greenland, and everywhere in between.

I also maintain monitoring equipment currently in use or under test - and in the past 11 years of doing this I have travelled to maintain equipment by: foot, ski, skidoo, sitting on a skidoo trailer, zodiac inflatable raft, little boat, big boat, fishing boat, coast guard boat, BIG coast guard boat, helicopter (big, little, little military, big military, little coast guard, big coast guard), skiplane (one engine, two engine, DC3), floatplane (one engine, two engine, turbine conversions), Herc, DC3 (that lost an engine). I've been to within 160 miles of the North Pole on the polar icecap. I've been dropped off on the Arctic Circle on the longest day of the year in polar bear country with a snack, a bottle of water, a satellite phone, a shotgun and a box of shells...
And I've had to build and make my own equipment while stuck in the middle of an island in the middle of a lake in the middle of the NWT - where to get just one bolt is .50 for the bolt and 8000 for delivery...

Every day is a challenge, every day is an adventure, and it keeps me on my toes - sadly, being away for 3 days out of every week on average (120 days in a 210 day government year) is taxing...

Default And..

I forgot to mention that most of my travel is on an emergency basis... I have two bags packed at all times - one's got clean clothes, one's got dirty clothes - and I don't have a chance to go home when I get the call of duty to fly-and-fix. Home is on the other side of the airport by 20 miles, and I have 24 hour response guidelines to meet...I can be gone a day, or 10 days, and not know until I get there... Once a 3 day trip turned into 17 waiting for weather to improve at a place where the jet to take me home flies into, and the ILS was down... Missed a birthday, golf tournament, Pink Floyd...

I sure hope the monitary aspect of the job is more than enough to make those hardships worthwhile.

Default One year..

One year while working in a similar position on a regional basis - less emergency travel and people to back you up - I took 2/3 of my OT as time, and earned 12 weeks off in OT... You can't tax time, but you sure lose on cash here..

I'll get sick of the emergency adventures some day... and forget everything I learned...

probably better off finding a totaled STI and grabbing the entire wiring harness off of it. Too expensive for my budget

Not really expensive at all. The difficulty is finding the connector bits - thats almost 1000 bux. And then building the harnesses from that. I need to justify spending yet another thousand dollars to make lights work for a few... I can have parts here in 45 days if the desire is there..

Check with lightwerkz he can probably make you one for decently cheap... and he makes great quality stuff I've seen his harnesses in person. GL

No prob, and a great quality one at that. Caesar does great work and you'll be happy. I mean you can probably rig yourself one up for like $40 bux but you'll have to locate all the pieces and then buy/cut/crimp things to spec. He knows all of this and will save you a headache on the harness! A true lighting guru and I stand by his work as a customer. Good luck with the harness, let us know how the project turns out!

just a word of guidance the WRX harness is shiet compared to the sti harness and if you were to upgrade the harness you can snag one from millenium auto for i think 500 bucks and not have to worry about fuses blowing but on how the hell are you going to get it through the fire wall and the dealer will rape you on the price i tried getting a replacment connector for my fog lights service guy told me 1000 dollars for the whole harness they dont sell anything not one pice for the harnesses you gottta get it as a whole unit and i told him you goottta be fukken kidddn me mane and left that place and i got rid of fog lights bc there gay and i never useed them
