Default Please help an electrical n00b w/ wiring!

I am trying to wire my AccessPORT to a switch so I can leave it plugged in and turn it on and off as I please (since it is ALWAYS on when it is plugged in). Thread for reference: http://forums.cobbtuning.com/forums/...ad.php?t=34670

Here is my crude little diagram for reference. I have tapped into the power wire of the USB cable and wired it up to the switch.

2 questions:
a. Is this configuration gonna asplode something?
b. Where can I tap into a ground wire near by?

Thanks in advance for help.

Why are you grounding the power connection of the AP? That doesn't seem right to me. Don't connect anything to the third spot on the switch.
In other words thats "gonna asplode something"

I just tested it out w/o grounding it, and the switched USB cable works.

The switch has a little red LED light on it. It didn't light up. I'm thinking that the ground on the switch is just so the light works?

Can anyone point me towards a known ground wire in the fog/cruise switch area I can tap into?

All you need is a screw that is tied into the metal chassis of the car.

Yeah, I realize I could run a long wire from the ground on the switch through the firewall and physically connect it to an existing ground point on the vehicle. I just figured it would be easier to vampire clip into an existing ground wire. I just don't know where one is, and I don't own a multimeter.

a ground is basically any piece of metal that touches the chassis of the car.

really all you need to do is find a bolt that hits the frame, loosen it a bit, and wrap your ground wire clockwise around it, then tighten.

its best to use an actual crimp on connector, but its not 100% necessary for a ground
