Default Vibration/grittiness through the clutch pedal

I just started noticing this yesterday. The car has 620 miles on it at the moment.

When I depress the clutch pedal, I feel a sort of grittiness or vibration through it. When I hold it in one location, I don't feel anything, but when the pedal is being moved, I feel something. It sure wasn't there before.

90% of the time I shift now, I feel it. Is this pretty normal for a new car or is my clutch about to blow up?

Any advice will be great...otherwise, I'm contacting the dealer soon. Thanks guys.

My clutch is a little rough and squeaks in the forester.... When I pulled my impreza engine I cleaned up the clutch fork (All the build up made it squeak) This did the trick.

Doubt this is the problem on a brand new car though.

My clutch used to be buttery smooth. I took it in for an oil change and then it got that grittiness... now it's better, but I still feel more "judder" than I did when I picked it up. Not sure if they did anything or what that did to cause it...

Get up under the dash and take a look at the pedal assembly. There's probably something binding there.

I had a terrible squeaking from my G35's clutch and it turned out to be a spring in the assembly that needed lubrication. It squeaked from day one until the day I hosed it down with some lithium grease.

Yea same for me but when I press the clutch in I sometimes here a clicking noise. Not like a relay click but a click sound from the spring behind the clutch pedal. Then sometimes it's smooth

im not sure if my issue is common i have a 11 wrx 5mt with 1500 miles. its only when i push down on the clutch all the way that last inch before it hits the wall then it makes a squeak, the sound is comin from the engine. when its cold the sound is gone but after 10 min of driving its back.

I have that gritty feeling in the morning but it goes away after a min then it starts to feel like butter

I have a 11 STi sedan with about 300 miles on it and just yesterday I noticed a grinding noise while in 1st and 2nd gear. Almost sounds like I am dragging something under the back of my car.

Grinding when deaccelerating? I have the same thing in my 05 sti as well. Switching from a wrx to an sti, I noticed alot of noises from the transmission. I've had the car for 2 months so they seem quite normal to me know. Nothing getting worse.

Yeah, I noticed it when I was driving through a parking lot at about 10mph max. I did have my radio off at the time so that might have been why I noticed it. Wondering if I should have it checked out before I use my new Cobb Accessport w/stage 1 map.

I have the same issue on my '11 WRX but I figured it was a normal trait of the car. I noticed it on the intial test drive I took in it and it's still there with 490 miles on it.

Forgot about this thread, but here's an update.

I have 10k miles on the car now and everything is very smooth. I don't notice anything out of the ordinary now. It's been fine for a while now.

The clutch pedal did make some noise every so often...just a click every time I pressed the pedal down. I haven't hear this for a while either.

I suspect it is either the car going through break-in or it was the colder temps we saw during winter.

I took my 2011 sti to the dealer with the same problem. After a check up the service manager said everything is ok. I have notice the car does it when engine is cold. If I let the rpms drop and easy in 2nd gear the transmission is ok. After the engine is warmed up on the street or track...no problem

On another note I was autocrosing Saturday and I push the c differential to lock while the car was slow moving......the transmition start complaining very loudly...did I screw anything up?

Bump

2011 WRX same intermittent issue, I have not found a way to reproduce it yet, but then again i have not really tried...It has happened to me 3 times so far in the last week. Car has 3400 miles on it, drive about 100 miles a day thru the week no other issues. What i can say is that it was 90+ degrees outside (Tampa) and the car was plent warm as it had been running for at least 30 minuts prior to the occurences. I have the first oil change scheduled for this friday and will mention it to the service department...along with showing them this thread. Will post update if i gain any good info. This topic also has another thread that runs back a few years...

Just wanted to chime in and say I've noticed this on my 2011 WRX as well. I'm not sure when it started, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't like that when it was brand new (7xxx miles on it right now). Just the "grittiness" feeling described, very slight vibrations only when moving the pedal. At first I thought it was temperature related (only when the engine is cold) but from testing, it turns out that it happens when the engine speed is above 1500 RPM or so. At normal hot idle the pedal is smooth, at cold idle I can feel the roughness, and while driving if I shift at those engine speeds I can feel it, although it's hard to feel over road vibrations. I can reproduce it easily by holding the engine at 1500 RPM in neutral and pumping the clutch.

I've had plenty of cars with hydraulic clutches in the past and never felt anything like this, but the WRX seems to have a fairly convoluted pedal linkage setup and a short hydraulic circuit that I suppose I could see transferring more driveline vibration than some other designs. The fact that it seems to be engine speed related makes me think (hope) it's just driveline vibration, but I'm not sure why it would only be felt when moving the pedal (or why it would be felt through the clutch at all for that matter).

For now I'm assuming this is nothing to worry about -- the car shifts and drives great. I thought about taking it in but I don't really want anything to be taken apart if it doesn't need to be.

I've had this problem off and on the last month now ('11 with 21k). Im one to engine break a lot and rev match. Had the problem the other night.. 5th engaged to brake ... Down to the point of stall. No idea why but that stopped it. She's back to buttery smoothe. Oil change is due tues... So I'm not sure if I want to have them check it out or not (as one other alluded to - impossible to replicate)
