Borla Headers + Perrin Pulley = Sweet!
Just got my 95 Legacy Wagon back last night with some new upgrades:
Borla Headers Perrin Lightweight Pulley SuperPro Steering Rack Bushings Whiteline FSB Wow, the headers and pulley made a huge difference in the way the 2.2 pulls. Revs much faster and is much quicker off the line and through the midrange. Definitely highly recommended these two for anyone with a NA car. I have 17 x 7.5 Rota's on a car that came stock with 14 inch steelies and I'm sure the factory rubber bushings were beat after 12 yrs. The big wheels made the steering squirley any time you came across ruts and potholes. You really had to make sure you had a good grip on the wheel sometimes. The steering rack bushings improved the feel soo much. Feels very similar to my stock wrx's steering now. Great bang for the buck mod. My suspension is totally done now: Whiteline Springs, KYB struts, FSB, RSB, Front and Rear Endlinks and a strut tower brace. Car feels awesome in the corners!

Hasn't done a thing to mine in 20k (its a 2.5 thou), and am more than likely going to get the cams re-ground later.

bobbyjimmy, you're the 2nd person I know that hasn't have any problems with their lw crank and flywheel. It seems to be that combining the two is a hit or miss in terms of problems, as a lot of people have also reported misfiring, engine codes, etc. when they did theirs.
I think the combo should be marked as "proceed at your own risk". |

Glad to see this discussion. I had been thinking about a lightweight flywheel when I do my clutch (soon unfortunately). Now sounds like it could be trouble.
Any put a factory short shifter in an old BG legacy like mine? I think that might be the next mod for me. |

Yeah, you can do the STi short throw shifter as it comes with all the linkage.
You don't have a BG, btw I'm pretty darn sure your VIN starts with 4S3BK6... I'm taking a different route with a short throw though. Since very few short throws (except the B&M which is 180+ dollars) exist for our tranny/linkage setup on the 95, I'm going to swap it out for an RS linkage and put a Kartboy short throw in. |

^mark, why don't you just keep the rs shifter. it's not that long and it seems quite close to my b&m.

I have heard that the RS shifter is about 15% shorter than the Legacy shifters.
I guess I could just keep it and save some $$ |

^mark, i was in the market of a shift linkage. u must be the lucky one to get it for 10 shipped i believe. people on rs25 wanted at least 75+shipping for theirs.

I'm pretty sure I have a BG. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_Legacy). I've seen it called a BK in a chassis code thread somewhere here (BK = leg wgn / BG = OB Wgn). But most references to 2nd gen legacy wagons I see are BG (www.japanparts.com for example.) I'm not familiar with the vin coding. What do you think the code for a 95 wgn chassis should be? Thx |

No, you have a BK. There were no raised roof wagons in 1995MY. The 96-99 Outback was a BG, because you'll notice the extra bump in the roof.
Most wagons in japan were raised roof and therefore BG. Check your VIN to verfiy When you get the linkage, think about getting Kartboy and TiC bushings to replace the stock rubber stuff. Polyurethane FTW! |
