Unhappy How hard is it to remove the front fender

Hey guys, Is it hard to remove the font fender?

My passenger side front fender was hit by an XBOX huge piece of curb rock that was kicked up by a semi truck yesterday. It left a dent and gash exposing metal on the fender, and chipped away some paint from my hood.

I was thinking of removing it, and banging it out, sand, paint, sand, clear, sand, and polish both the small piece of hood, and the dent on the fender.

Is this plausible?

Thanks guys

unless you've got experience in body repair (and it doesn't seem so since you've asked if it's difficult to remove the fender) i wouldn't attempt repairing a piece of sheet metal like that. it's a lot more tricky than you'd think...and you might ruin what would have otherwise been a repairable fender. typically on a fender repair, the fender isn't removed anyhow. you may have to remove the splash shield to access the inner edge though. unless you've got a set of body hammers & a good dolly, you'll have a really hard time.

Paintless Dent Repair. Which wouldn't work for your situation, but if you don't know what PDR is then please take your car to a pro and have it fixed. It'll be better to spend the money now to fix it right then to try and do it yourself and have to replace it after it's ruined.

<--- professional. i work in a body shop & watch this stuff done all day long. I work in the office though, dealing with insurance companies & customers. Also oversee the repair process for quality assurance reasons, etc. Even with what i've seen...i could "explain" the process, but i wouldn't even attempt it on my suby. practice on a junker, hell yeah....my sti...hell no

I'll just clean out the gash, put some sort of seal on it so it doesnt oxidize, and bring it to my bodyshop. I need to get my rear bumper fixed and painted anyway from a hit and run with a jeep with a tow hook. My car has a butt hole due to that...

Junkyard!

Theres loads of junkyards in houston. You're bound to find a PSM bumper and fender. Might want to check on that and get prices before you go repairing anything. I bounced my jeep off a lincoln before I traded it in, I saved myself almost $1000 buying the grill, hood, and fenders from a junkyard. Best part, I did all the repairs (minus pulling the frame straight and fixing the front axle tube).

Just a suggestion

thats understandable Just thought I would suggest it. My fenders were repairable, but in the end it was still cheaper to just get junkyard parts. If you have no objections with just taking it to a body shop more power to ya. I'm cheap so I always try to do things myself before I hand them off to a shop, if it's feasible

all over 45 just outside of 610. I picked up a phone book to find mine. It's been 3 years so I dont exactly remember. You find some good stuff at junkyards. Some yards are better than others as far as pricing goes, so if you decide to look around make sure you go to more than one place. Also save it for a weekend, It gets to be a whole day type of thing. I spent a good 3-4 hours of poking around before I found what I needed.

either way good luck getting your car fixed up

call a local body shop or two and see who they get their LKQ parts from. (LKQ = Like Kind & Quality = used/recycled)...most, if not all, of the yards the shops buy from will have a computer inventory of the parts & save you some serious hunting. do an internet search for local salvage yards and make some phone calls. shoot me a picture of the damage if you wanna...i'll give you my "professional" opinion
