Default ??'s on 96 impreza 2.2 to 98 2.5

so im putting a 98 legacy DOHC 2.5 into my 96 impreza outback with a single port 2.2.

ive read through ALOT of threads and it seems like i just need to swap the wiring harness from the 2.2 engine onto the 2.5 engine and thats it. and run the 2.2 ecu and i should be fine. i know the exhaust is different so i have a borla header waiting.

anything else i need please let me know. but i mainly need to know on the wiring if there is anything else i need to do to ge this to run. this will be done on my day off at my work (we have a lift and its a subaru wrecking yard so any parts i need i have) and it needs to be done in 1 day prefered, but 2 is ok if need be.

Thanks,
Shean

You don't even have to swap the engine wiring harness. The one on the 98 2.5 dohc will just plug in to the existing 96 bulkhead harness. It's just that easy.

dam its that easy? the 98 2.5 was a auto car so it has a EGR, so i should just keep my 96 2.2 ecu and it will be fine?

I am also curious. If he uses the 2.5 injectors, fuel rail, and manifold, would he need to use a 2.5 fuel pump or will the 2.2 fuel pump work. The reason I ask is I am doing a similar swap. I have a 97 2.2 impreza that im swapping in a 97 2.5. and want to use the whole 2.5 engine and just run that with my 2.2 ecu. Is the 2.2 fuel pump capable or should I just use the 2.2 injectors, manifold, and ecu? Sorry for the partial hijack

Thanks in advance

The stock pump will be sufficient. A WRX pump would be an upgrade, but not necessary at all.....

They both use the same pump and the same injectors.

The ecu's are plug and play as well. I would used the appropriate ecu for the engine. You will get a higher redline and 100% proper mapping.

Yes they are somewhat. Just watch out for different emisisons setups. Some have the canister under the hood and some have the enhanced evap with the canister in the back and a few more sensors. Those don't interchange with out adding sensors and wiring.
