Question mirror wind noise

My 1996 Impreza Outback wagon makes a real racket at speeds above 60mph. I've found that if I fold in my driver's side rear-view mirror, the noise goes away. Has anyone else noticed this, or found a solution? I'd like to stop driving around with my mirror folded in.

I get that too on my RS, I think I remember someone posted that they filled up the crack between where the mirror folds will solve the problem. But if you fill it with stuff you can't fold it anymore.

Are you referring to the annoying whistle sound?

no, it's not a whistle sound. it sounds like wind blowing through laundry hanging on a clothesline - at least, that's the best description I can come up with.

So filling in the crack might help? Hm. I'll try putting some masking tape over it and try that tonight to see if it works.

Hmmm.. I thought you where referring to the whistle sound. Oh I did notice when I had the side mirrors folded there is a little piece of sticker where the fold was on the mirror side. Maybe that was the cause..

I get a whistling sound in my MY00 RS. I have no idea where it comes from, but I can't hear it if I've got my windows open. If I've got everything closed up and going 40+ mph, I'll hear it in the cabin. It kinda sounds like you're whistling through your teeth, and the faster I go, the higher in pitch it gets. Some of my passengers think there's a plane passing overhead .

Fold the mirror in and put some weather stripping along the fold.

Once you unfold it, the stripping should disrupt the wind flow and windnoise. Making it all better.
