Default I made a new axleback last night...

Hey guys, I don't usually post up too much around these parts as you can see but blue thunder got some after hours love at the shop the other night and I thought I would share a couple of pics....

I've been collecting parts for a while to do this. Basically my goal is to have 3 different axle back setups I can swap out on my car whenever I'm feeling frisky. A street setup, an aggressive street/track setup, and a mufflerless track only setup. This would be the street/track setup. As you can see it's a bit straighter than the street setup.

That big muffler has been around for a while... I think it might even be a Stromung muffler before Cobb made their own for all you old dudes. I decided to add some dimple-die gussets to the brackets because for one they just look cool, but I also used hollow SS hangers to help keep weight down and I thought they could use a little extra bracing.

The whole system is about as straight as I think I can get it now. I used a 3" resonator that I cut out of one of Cobb's rejected Mazdaspeed 3 mid-pipes and the rest is just miscellaneous scrap that I welded together. It's pretty damn loud now but DEEP. Very similar to the Invidia exhaust.... which is good because that's what I was going for

The tip is section-cut 3.5" SS... the reason for that is once again, because I like the way it looks. But the other reason is because I wanted a turn-down and as you can imagine 3.5" SS bends are pretty pricey and I can just make this out of discarded straight sections of pipe.

And as a bonus.. I finally got around to putting my summer brakes on (funny, I know. They don't clear my 16" winter wheels) And with a nice little tip from Brody that involved garbage bags and Ammonia I finally got rid of that whack ass purple tint that my car had in the back windows for waaay too long.

Now I just have to do some stupid maintenance in the form of a timing belt, water pump, and all that fun stuff because the old bird's getting up there in mileage. Next stop, LAP BATTLE!

not a fan of the tip pointing down like that (looks like a dryer duct) but the craftsmanship looks fantastic and I bet it sounds great.

Looks good, i like the tun down, it's more race looking and less ricer. I've always hated the big straight can exhausts and black charred bumpers. I guess that's why I bought a Cobb.

I love it, looks great! I like the uniqueness of the tip.

you said the muffler is just a resonator from a midpipe? reason I ask is I think my retarded fart can needs to be replaced and I have no idea what to look for or where to find it for as cheap as possible.

umm... yea. MAD fartz BRO! Anyways, thanks for the kind words guys. And Mush 04, there really is no difference between a resonator and a muffler, only the sizing between the two. I get a decent amount of stuff I use for fabrication through Vibrant so you may want to check them out to see if they have something that will suit your needs. http://vibrantperformance.com/catalo...products_id=45

Never buy aluminum from Canadians!!! Ha ha j.k. Yeah.... without buying in bulk or having an account somewhere that stuff can get pretty pricey, most people don't realize how much mandrel bends are. I'll have to check around the valley to see if I can find any other sources.... there's Allied, but I don't remember them being anything too spectacular.
