Ouch I feel sorry for you man! I know some insurance companies will pay for aftermarket parts, but you have to opt in for a "special" plan and pay extra to cover those parts. Good luck!

Parking on the street sucks. Had to do it in the late 80's when I was in college. Someone hit my '84 GTI and I was pissed until I found out it was this cute girl who lived across the street. We dated for a couple years after that. So yeah, maybe you should date the 17-year-old kid who hit your car.

They won't pay for any upgrades unless your insurance plan has the parts and values listed and your rates where adjusted accordingly. You may be able to go after them in small claims after the fact, but it will cost more in the end then just getting a new exhaust. Your insurance company is required to replace with oem or equivalent parts, especially since there most likely a lien holder involved.

An OEM jobber rate exhaust is likely not a whole lot less than yours. I expect you could have yours bent back at a good exhaust shop.

If you go to the right shop they will get you paid for it, but honestly that the least of your problems

I'd be more concerned with the shop being able to repair the car correct and having it all straight. I've seen cars take the same hit and start to dog track. Where in NY are you?

Yes they will pay for the exhaust. They may write for OEM, but once you give them a copy of the invoice for the one you have they will pay the difference as a supplement.

even if they DO pay out, its a VERY VERY VERY small amount for aftermarket parts. You'd be LUCKY to get $100 for it.

if he has a receipt for it and the shop has a good appraiser, it will be paid in full. I work at a pretty notable body shop in NY

Sorry about your misfortune, but only the insurance company can answer your question with 100% certainty so you need to contact them.

lol I wouldn't want him to come here unless hes prepared to be without the car for a while.

I look at the picture and see possible total loss. Many of you will say no way, and I understand that. But unlike most shops, we get paid for everything at the price you SHOULD be paid for doing it. Most places are underpaid on repairs and they don't even know it. Off of 1 picture I see excess of $14,000 in damage/repairs

Also the fact that we are such a high demand facility that this kind of repair will take 2 weeks to a month, with all the cars we have going through the repair process at one time. We currently have over 100 cars going "through the process" facebook.com/jbbodyworks

I can see why it can be ruled as total loss as it might have affected the frame structure. If it's a total loss wouldn't it be better for the OP though? (well except the fact he might have to wait a bit to order a new 2013 wrx/sti)

neither I, nor anyone I know has EVER had that happen.

It could be paid in full IF he has additional coverage for the aftermarket parts, which I doubt he has.

Im not sure what company my buddy has, bit his gti was sideswiped not long ago when it was parked on the street and the insurance paid to replace his rotiform wheels, vinyl wrap on his roof and to retint the driver side window. There may be a little hope for that q300 being replaced if youre lucky

My insuarance company did it for me. Prodrive GC-06 wheels, Cobb cat back, etc...

p.s. I didn't have additional coverage.

Wrong and wrong... His insurance doesn't make one difference at all here. In fact, he could have liability only, wouldn't change anything. His parked car was hit, and it was not a hit and run. So first of all, the other driver's liability insurance covers it. If he doesn't have liability insurance, it then goes back to this guy's uninsured/underinsured coverage, if he has any. If both of those fall through, THEN the guy's full coverage may kick in. That is only possible in states that don't have mandatory uninsured/underinsured coverage, of which NY is not one of. (its required)

In dealing with a situation like this, the other insurance company has a legal obligation to replace like with like. Doesn't matter if you had $20,000 wheels off a ferrari on that car, the other insurance company is now going to be buying some very expensive wheels!

none of my friends have additional coverage on aftermarket parts, and their carbon hoods/wheels/exhaust all get covered when/if they wreck.
