Springs for a 2005 Impreza 2.5RS
I need input for the best springs to lower my new 2005 Impreza 2.5RS. But I need springs that can be used with my stock shocks, since I do not have the money to shell out for a whole package. Also, I do not want to use springs that would put strain on the shocks. So basically, springs designed for a stock setup.
Please give me the company/brand for the best springs for my situation. Thanks in advance.

Prokit = junk IMHO springs are too soft and they lower the car waaay too much Prodrive is nice buuuuuuuut for $70 less you could get the Subaru SPT Pink Sti springs. made FOR your car engineered FOR your car lowers the car about 1" 223front and 195rear spring rates come with new camber bolts/washers/nuts **click here to see what i'm talking about** these are a fairly new product from Subaru recently introduced, so many dont know about them... they're VERY nice. engineered for the NON STI subaru Jamie www.subiegal.com |

Ion performance Sport Spec springs are great. I have them on my '05 RS now and love them. They are progressive rate so they are very comfortable and they are also designed to work with the stock struts and will wear your struts only slightly more than stock, unlike many other aftermarket springs.
I am getting coilovers (for track and auto-x use) so they may be for sale. I have <1000 miles on them. PM me if you are interested. You can also call Ion Perfomrance to get more information. Here is what Ion has to say about them: > From: jack [mailto:[email protected]] > Sent: Thursday, April 14, 2005 12:23 PM > To: gharari > Subject: Re: Srings for a 2005 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS > > Hi there gharari, thanks for your call and interest in our products. I'll throw in my vote for the Prodrives. They fit nicely between the Eibach Pro-Kit and the STi Pinks giving you a nice drop that evens out the wheel-well gaps and a higher spring rate than stock all while being engineered for YOUR car and it's stock struts by the kind folks at Prodrive. Here's some pics of my car before and after:

does anyone know what type of coilover will work for the 05 rs? I have decided to spend my money on getting suspension instead of a turbo for now untill my warranty expires.
Any suggestions on the best parts for suspenion? I want to know cheapes to the most expensive and then figure out how much i want to spend. Thanks Jon |

2005 RS suspension
So, I am a newbie to the world of subaru mods and I was wondering if anyone knew the details when it comes to upgrading the stock suspension on a 2005 impreza RS (BTW, I love my car)? I am thinking about hooking up a prodrive spring set and I was wondering if the shocks also needed to be upgraded with the springs along with anything else that should be upgraded. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

for all you n00bs go get some sway bars, and new tires before you do anything else. and i know the 05+ WRX got a new steering rack but if the RS didnt, you should get some steering rack bushings as well
as far as springs go get the "pinks" cause they are a stiff spring rate and you can still drive the car without hitting every driveway and ripping parts off your car. also remember that when you lower a car too much you start messing with the steering/ suspension geometry. so a stock height car with stiffer springs will work better than a super low car for the most part |

It will save you money and time if you decide what your goals are with the car, first, before buying anything. For example, the size of your swaybars will depend on the type of springs and struts.
So you may want to answer these questions, to start... Will you be racing? If yes, what type? Auto-x, Rally-x, Track? How competitive do you want your car to be? What class do you want to compete in? What kind of tires will you be racing on? Race compound or street? How important is comfort? Will you be driving in slippery conditions? What is your budget? What do you like about your handling now? What don't you like? How important is the appearance of the fender gap to you? What do you like/dislike about the current appearance of the car's stance? How important is appearance compared to handling and comfort? |

I would say 17 mm to 19 mm sway bar for RS is good enough unless u plan to have a an engine upgrade.
I just installed a 17mm on my car, it makes a big different while cornering. ****DON"T FORGET TO HAVE A SET OF NICE "TIRES" ON RS BEFORE YOU DO ANY MOD ON RS |

I run a Whiteline 20mm front bar and a 24mm on the rear. This makes the car feel much more solidand eliminates a ton of body roll, the stock rear bar on the RS is 13mm and a stock WRX is 17. If your on a budget get a used stock WRX rear sway bar. I ran one of these for a while untill i came across my whitlines.
Doint be afraid to buy used parts on here, I have built my car out of all used parts and saved a ton of money. Theres no benift to buyting them new as long as its not a wearable part |

Just installed these on my RS last week. Nice springs, firmer but not harsh...lower the car by roughly 0.5" in the back and 0.75" in the front. Pics for before and after are here Ordered the springs from Subiegal...Great service. Thanks for taking the time to change the shipping method, Jamie. |

This is where I got my RSB, mounts, and endlinks for my '05 RS. I would definintely recomend them. I got my stuff fast, and there was no doubt the parts would fit since all the parts on the page were listed for my car.
http://www.subaruwrxparts.com/04rs-suspension.html You could also check with Subiegal, here on this board. |

Compared to Eibach?
Hi Jaime,
I converted my daughter's '05 RS to look like a STi with exterior and interior STi parts. I also changed out the shocks and coils with Eibach Street Performance parts for a better stance but minimal harshness. I also had to use Saggy Bottom shim in the rear because it looked like a damned low rider once installed. I have two questions: 1. Will the pink coils ride better than the Eibachs? I bought the least aggressive set of Eibach coils made for ye 2.5 RS and the ride is very uncomfortable. For example, I lowered our Eacalade with a mcCaughys lowering kit and it rides like stock but it just looks better. Same for my BMW. I'm hoping because Subaru is selling these pink coils the ride will be better than the Eibahs? 2. With the pink coils do I need the saggy bottom shims? I'd rather not pay to experiment. I don't like ye low rider look. Thanks! Quote:

Is there any notable difference that would come from putting a stock 05 STi shock and spring set on an 05RS? I can't seem to find a clear answer on that...

I just received my order from Jaime. What awesome customer service! I'll let you know how the ride is compared to my current Eibachs once installed.
