My car won't start after clutch install! Please help!!!
I just finished putting in my new clutch disk... It took me a while but now everything is pieced back together. The clutch pedal feels fine and all... but now when I turn the key in the ignition the engine will turn over but will not start!!! I don't know what is wrong. I think it isn't sparking but I'm not sure.
Earlier on I tried to start the car and I stupidly forgot that I did not connect the negative to ground. This resulted in a click and a spark. Could this have blown a relay or something to prevent my spark plugs from sparking? Please help... thank you...

I assume you did this with a GC8 and pulled the tranny to do it. WRX probably isn't that much different. Forgetting to re-connect some of the wires may cause your ECU to fault and not permit the engine to restart. With the car in gear it doesn't lurch when you try to start it does it?

well as far as lurching in gear my car can't do that because I have to keep the clutch in to start it.
There are a few possible areas that I'm thinking about... there is another sensor near the O2 sensor and I don't know what its for but we had to disconnect it in order to lower the headers. When my friend did it he accidently ripped the wires out of their sockets and can't remember which one goes where. There are three sockets in the plug and three wires... Does anyone know what this is for? Will it keep the car from starting??? what about the spark plugs? Could that surge of electricity from when I forgot to ground the negative blow one or all of them out? |

Was this additional sensor the rear O2 sensor or was it attached to the transmission? If attached to the transmission it's probably the vehicle speed sensor. If you hooked it back up wrong your ECU may be fubar. In general it would only cause your speedo to not work.
Beyond that I can't think of anything. You did disconnect your battery to do this job didn't you??? You might get someone with a Subaru Select monitor or ODB2 reader to hook it up and see what the ECU thinks is wrong. I still have a feeling you forgot a plug somewhere. How about the tranny ground strap? -Michael |

even if it is the o2 sensor the car would still start, but it will stall in less then 5 seconds. I would think that if the ECU was fried the starter wouldn't even work but i very well could be wrong. I would go back a double check everything, take your time, think slow, picture in your mind everything you took apart, and see if you remember putting it back together.

well guys I found the problem... after doing some extensive searches I came across many people having the same problems... It was actually due the Crank angle sensor just below the alternator. I jiggled it around some and now it starts up fine... thanks for the help anyway.
