Tein Street Basis coilovers for 08-14 WRX
I got a crazy good deal on these coilovers from XTR performance (Chris from XTR frequents a couple facebook subaru groups im in and posted the deals there)
I had RCE black springs on stock struts before and was getting a crazy amount of clunking and blew one or more of my stock struts and figured enough was enough. I have to say that I'm very pleased with this purchase, as I've never owned or even been in a car with coilovers, I was expecting them to feel like the blown struts i had before with the way people describe coilovers sometimes. These drive great! the dampening is great, it's a little more stiff than I would prefer for a daily, but overall I still really enjoy them and the stiffness just makes cornering more fun anyway. I've always heard mixed things about tein, but these are great. The only difficult thing about them was the total lack of instructions for installing. They send you a pamphlet that has a bunch of technical details and show you what goes where, but there is a total lack of procedural instructions included, like how to preload or adjust them, etc. I ended up just assuming that because of the nature of these coilovers, that you really cant preload them and have to kind of just let the car down with the spring loose, and so far it's been fine....no major issues in doing that The springs definitely break in quite a bit and settle over time....dropped quite a bit more from where I initially placed them Here's a pic of my wrx with them on:

Interested to see how these hold up, and what your opinion is a few months down the road. They look like they might be a really good deal.

They've been on for about a month so far BJames, they feel better now than when I put them on. This car is in Chicago, so I sprayed it down good with boesheild T9 and used antiseize on the threads of the sleeve. They have a factory anti rust coating according to tein but I didn't want to take chances. I'll do a follow up closer to summer

I'm also in Illinois. I'll look forward to hearing how you like them when you can actually drive in nicer weather.

Sorry for the delay, nasioc doesnt notify me for some reason now. Yes there are welding into the housing and it's solid. I'm not sure how much the drop is compared to stock, but I've got them set about 6 threads from the bottom

thanks buddy! I like the blacked out housing but really dont like the yellow DRL dish as much as I thought I would. Probably going to end up prying these suckers apart again and doing a dark grey on those.

Thanks for the write up. When time and weather permits can you take a side pic of your car? I am running a 2012 red hatch and thinking of these in the near future. Also, I am no expert with these but what setting did you initially set them at? How are they at their highest setting? I am just trying to make sure the drop would be safe for me using them during the crazy winters. Thanks again.

I got these recently and I pulled them out of the box to get everything set up and whatnot. Does the Adjustment thread lock onto the actual strut or will it sit more securely when it is installed?

Ive had them on my car gor a few months. They ride smooth. I can tell they are alot stiffer then stock but the valving is correct so no bounce. Only thing that sucks is they really arent adjustable. They dont have the threaded body like normal coils. You can raise or lower the spring perches but to me that just changes the spring loading and not the height. So far im fairly happy with them.
